Chapter 53

My sense of smell is slowly starting to come by too. And I heard a wonderful aroma coming from Darren's cooking

So Darren can cook? This is a first...

"I actually was just cooking something up... and it's nothing special since there's only so many in your fridge"

He handed me his dish... which was probably intended for him if I didn't end up waking up. It was an omelette along with two grilled sausages. Honestly he's so considerate that it makes me feels bad taking this meal from him 

"This was actually intended for you, right?" I asked

"N-no... I just knew that you were about to be up anytime soon now, so..."

I can tell that he hasn't eaten as well, but I would feel bad turning him down now

"Well, alright... Thanks for the food!"

I ended up pretending that I was full before finishing it... And as I expected, he ate the remaining quite furiously, like he was starving

*sigh* Darren, you should stop being so considerate to me... otherwise I have this feeling that I want to be considerate to you as well. Wait... but that's not a bad thing

"Leilah... should we inject my tonics now? Or should we wait until your condition is perfect again?" Asked Darren

"Darren..."

"Hm? What is it?"

"Nothing... it's just that, do you know how many people out there would take advantage of this situation?" I asked

"What do you mean by that?"

"People would do anything to get my powers. And people would probably run away without giving me my powers back. Do you realize what I'm saying?"

"Yeah... Don't worry. The thought never even crossed my mind" Said Darren with a genuine smile

"I just want to say thank you... for everything"

"You don't have to mention it"

After that... I laid back in my bed with Darren preparing the needle beside me

"With this heavy rain... it's kinda getting nerve-racking isn't it?" Asked Darren

"Oh just do it... Don't make me more scared than I already am!" I yelled

"R-right! Sorry..."

I injected the tonics to the side of her neck. And there's no reaction to it yet shortly after. Did it not work?

But then, my body was starting to hurt... It's like there's electricity flowing inside

"Urgh!"

"Leilah? What happened!"

I didn't response in an attempt to survive it, my eyes closed, and the whole of my body stiffened up trying to endure the pain

But suddenly all the pain was gone... in a matter of seconds. I slowly opened my eyes

"Leilah... Your eyes! they're glowing!" 

Huh? They Are? I didn't even try and power up yet

I tried and pause time all around me except for Darren. My vision was grey-scaled, signaling that Darren's tonics worked

"D-did you pause time? My vision are---"

"Yeah it worked... look outside, even the cars below us have stopped moving"

"B-but won't they get confused?"

"It's fine... They won't realize that time was paused for a moment from their perspective"

Suddenly, I noticed Darren hugging me, holding and circling me up like I was his daughter or something

"Leilah! I can't believe it actually worked!" Said Darren full of excitement

"H-hey! Put me down already!"

The next day... 11:01 AM, Wellston Private High, Hallways

Remi's POV

"Isen... Do you think there's something wrong with Blyke lately?" I asked

"Hm? Where's this coming from?"

"It's just that... he always look so sleepy. And his eye bags are starting to get more visible each day!"

"I saw him go out at night with some sports bag. He's probably just working out more often lately?"

"You think so?"

Is that really the reason though? I mean if it's for 'working out'... He could've just done it at some other times.

Could it be that he.... Nah there's no way. He's the one that genuinely wants me to quit. Besides, what's the reason he would want to be a superhero anyways
