Chapter nine
Awake
I awoke to my face being scraped along an ice cold rocky floor, I kept blinking until my blurred
vision came back, my right cheek was sore and felt raw, but I ignored the feeling and looked up.
Large heavy looking stalactites hung from the ceiling threatening to drop at any second. I glanced
around taking in the cold damp air, I was slowly receding from a bright neon blue lake that lead
back to the ocean. What have I gotten myself into…
Whatever was pulling me finally stopped and unwrapped itself from my waist, I heard it slither
away and dip into another pool of water behind me. I let go of a breath that I didn’t know I was
holding and flopped onto my back What am I going to do now? I relaxed my whole body just lying on
the rock hard cave floor and closed my eyes. I wonder what would happen if I a were to hop but into
the water and swim for the door. “You would never find it,” A deep voice boomed through the cave,
the voice echoing back at me, I let my eyes flutter open, adjusting to the light, Ellie crouched
besides me wearing a cocky grin, “You know your drop dead gorgeous,” he said stroking a finger
down my cheekbone to my chin and tilted my head up as if to get a better look at me, “Your eyes,
are just wondrous! I’ve never seen eyes this color before, pale topaz, very lovely,” he murmured, Oh
please that’s just disgusting, “Get you hands off me,” I hissed, as I began to move my hands up to
shove him off me. “Hm now that’s no way to treat someone who is going to offer you a deal,” he
smiled winking at me. I could feel my face twist into a mask of disgust. My eyebrows squished
together, “What deal,” I question flicking my fingers at him motioning him to get off me, he chuckled,
a laugh rumbling from his chest which was between an evil and flirty laugh. “Oh by the way you
might one to check out your cheek,” he said pulling a mirror out of his back pocket and giving it to
me, okay no way am I going to fall for this trick. “Nothing but a plain mirror,” he said, shrugging his
shoulders. I gave him a sceptical look before taking it slowly and opening the compact mirror. I
looked at myself, My eyes glittered in the dim light that seemed to illuminate from the water. My fair
skin was peeled off and bleeding on my right cheek, different types of grime and rocks were stuck
stiffly onto the dried blood. My full lips were pursed as I bit my bottom lip, damn seaweed. I looked
up at Ellie his eyes a mix of neon blue and green, his face looked so calm and serious, its hard to
believe thathe’s evil, well until you see him smile. “You know if you want me to fix that… thing on
your cheek just say so and it’ll be done,” he smiled. He was wearing different clothes this time, a
nice full black tux and a white tie. “What’s the price,” I said sceptical, “Oh nothing,” he said, I looked
up from the mirror to see his face, serious and emotionless like stone, “Good,” I mumbled and let
go of a deep breath I was holding. “So did you want me to fix it?” he asked, smiling slyly. I gave him
a cautious look. “Fine,” I said. He walked towards me and drifted his fingers down my cheekbone to
my chin… again and blew on it. His breath smelt good, but than again it didn’t feel as good as it felt.
It felt like he was blowing away all my worries and pain and leaving me with only good happy
feelings. I bit my lip a little harder and closed my eyes, I felt his warmth against my body, the thought
of me sitting on my butt like a moron just escaped my mind, he feels… good. “Come to my room
with me,” he whispered softly in my ear, so hypnotic. I blinked, losing myself in his words. “No one
will know, it’s us until the end, we’re soul mates, I love you,” he whispered, his words just whirl
winded around my head. Its so hard not to believe him, everything he said it’s… it’s true, I could feel
they were, the pang in my gut told me so. “I don’t know,” I said as if in a daze, I couldn’t even blink, it
was impossible for me not to say no… but I had to, I need to go help my friends. “Your friends are
fine sweetheart, it’s just us you need to worry about, whatever you want my love, you will have it, I
promise, I love you,” he said over and over again, I love you his words haunted me, I don’t know to
believe him, but I looks like he meant it, I shook my head trying to get out of my daze, and all of a
sudden I was in his arms, Ellie was cradling me like a little child, as he continued to whisper words
of love and assurance in my ear. “I love you, let me take care of you, stay with me and your friends
can go,” he whispered, if I stay here with Ellie, the rest of my friends will be safe, I took a deep
breath, and looked at him square in the eyes, “Give me your word that they’ll be let go, you’ll let
them go,” I said, lost in his endless neon blue and green eyes. “I give my word,” he smiled, and it
wasn’t one of his creepy, odd eerie smiles, it was full of love and passion, it was… kind? The
prince of darkness smiling a kind smile? If I thought about it earlier, before any of this happened I
would’ve laughed and said that’s impossible… if I weren’t looking at it right now. “OK good,” I
whispered and looked down at my hands that were placed nicely on my lap as he held me closed
in his arms. He smiled as he began standing and a flurry of different streaks of lights flew around
us, engulfing us in a void of color with the smell of… lavender, I grimaced. What have I gotten
myself into…
