"Screw you, Archie! I told you I wasn't ready!"
"You're never ready, it's been like a year already."
"Alright, that's enough. I'm not here to watch your lover's spat. I get that you're not too happy with him cheating, but I'm still going to blow his brains out unless you do what I told you to do, and I'm guessing you still don't want him dead."
"Don't touch her!"
"I'm not sure you have any claim over her anymore. If I were her, I'd want you dead." He signaled one of his men and he pulled out a gun and pointed it at Archie's face.
"Wait!" Betty cried, "I'll do whatever you want! Don't shoot him, please!"
She got up and walked shakily up the stairs, everyone's eyes on her. When she got to Archie's room, she sat on the bed and cried. She had woken up that morning, thinking it was going to be a normal day. Now, she had found out her boyfriend was cheating on her with her best friend, and she was about to be raped by a gang leader.
She dropped her shorts and then pulled off her t-shirt, feeling more disgusting than ever. Then she sat back down, buried her face in hands and cried some more.
Soon after, she heard someone coming up the stairs and then heard footsteps approaching the door. When she saw the doorknob turn, she crossed her arms over her chest and crossed her legs, trying to cover up as much as possible.
The door opened and the same man from downstairs walked in and sat on the chair by the bed. He barely even glanced at her as he sat down.
"So, Betty, cheating with your best friend, that's rough."
She ignored what he said,
"What are you going to do to me?" she asked quietly.
"Nothing," he replied.
Whatever answer she had been expecting, this wasn't it.
"What?"
"I'm not going to hurt you, I'm not even going to touch you," he said, and then as an afterthought, "unless you want me to, of course. Oh, and you can put your clothes back on, I can tell you're uncomfortable."
Betty was now officially confused. She quickly dressed back up.
"But you said-"
"Sweetheart, I'm a gang leader. The leader of the Southside Serpents. I can't have people thinking I'm a softie now, can I? Whatever you may think of me after what your lovely boyfriend said downstairs, I'm not in the habit of hurting people just because I can."
"Oh, well, that's good," was all she could think to say.
"I hope you don't mind, I am going to have to stay here with you for a bit, I still need to freak out Ginger a little bit." Betty snorted,
"Oh please, he's just glad it's me and not Veronica who's being metaphorically harassed."
"You don't seem to be as upset as I thought you'd be."
"I don't know why I'm even telling you this, but the truth is, I don't really love him."
"Hmm, care to elaborate?"
"I thought I did, but I really see him as more of a friend."
"Oof, now I wish I hadn't exposed him cheating so that you could friendzone him. That's the way to really knock a guy down a peg." Betty surprised herself by chuckling.
"Well, either way, we're definitely over now, and I kind of suspected there was something going on between them."
"I know a way you could really piss him off."
"I'm listening."
"You could go out with me."
Betty studied his face for a minute to see if he was joking.
"I can't tell if you're kidding or not."
"Totally not."
"You did hear downstairs that I'm not easy, right?"
"Another misconception about gang members, not always a bunch of horny fuckboys who just want sex all the time. Many of them, maybe, but not all of them."
"So you're actually asking me out?"
"I think so, yeah."
"Like on a date?"
"So, by the way you're stalling, I take it you're not interested?"
"I am!" she blurted and then turned red, "Interested, I mean."
"Wonderful, I think it's been long enough, should we head downstairs?"
"You want to go out right now?"
"I want to see the look on Andrews's face, don't you?" She grinned.
"Kinda. Oh!" she remembered suddenly, "I just realized I don't even know your name."
"It's Forsythe, Forsythe Jones, but you can call me Jughead, Betty..."
"Cooper, Betty Cooper."
"Well then, Betty Cooper, shall we?" He offered her his arm. She took it giggling. They walked downstairs together. When they got down, Betty noticed that Archie's face was pretty swollen. She guessed that some punches were thrown. Surprisingly, she didn't care too much. He had probably deserved it.
"Betty! Are you okay? What did he do to you?" Betty rolled her eyes,
"You can stop pretending that you care now."
"Anyway, this has been fun, but Betty and I have things to do, places to be, so if you'll excuse us."
"You're kidnapping her??"
"No, you moron, I'm treating her to a milkshake. I don't know if you've heard but she just found out that her asshole of a boyfriend cheated on her with her best friend."
"Great, so as soon as we break up, now you're comfortable whoring around with a gang member?"
"Excuse me?!"
"Leader, Andrews. Gang leader. And I asked her out on a date, not to go fuck in a bathroom. Why don't you ask yourself who in this room is really whoring around."
"Really, Betty? We broke up like ten minutes ago and you're already going on a date with someone else?"
"Are you kidding me?" Betty said indignantly, "At least I waited for us to break up!"
Archie had the decency to look ashamed, but not much else.
"And somehow, Jughead's already done more for me in ten minutes than you have in a year!"
"Made you finish?" Jughead said smirking, knowing it would drive Archie insane. It did, Archie's eyes widened with fury.
"No! He's just kidding, but he was there when I needed someone because of something you did. Even if he's making stupid jokes about it."
They walked out, hand in hand.
"Did you really have to say that last thing?"
"No, but did you see the look on his face? Priceless!"
