A/N: As promised, part 2.
“I hate this,” Jughead said for the fiftieth time that week.
“I know you do, son, but you don’t have a choice but to wait the whole week. If you keep marching in there like the stereotype protective boyfriend, they’re not going to believe you’re her brother, especially with that blabber-mouth roommate of hers.”
“I know, but I feel so useless, sitting here and going to school as if everything’s fine when she’s locked up there scared and alone.”
“What did Archie and Veronica say?”
“Pretty much the same as you,” Jughead muttered, “that I should wait until it’s time and keep my calm.”
“Exactly.” Jughead had an idea and got up from the couch.
“Where are you going?”
“To go do something very rational.”
“Oh dear, why does it feel like you’re lying to me?”
Jughead shrugged and walked out. FP put his head in his hands, “That boy’s going to be the death of me.”
Jughead rode his motorcycle over to Betty’s house. His dad was right. He wasn’t going to get what he wanted if he kept acting like his bad-boy irrational self. It was clear that he couldn’t tackle this like a Serpent, he had to tackle this like a high school boy talking to his girlfriend’s mother.
He took a deep breath and told himself he wasn’t going to lose his temper no matter what. Then he knocked on the door.
“Who is it?”
“It’s Jughead!”
“What do you want now?”
“I just want to talk.”
The door opened and Alice Cooper stood there, hands on her hips, very impatiently.
“Come to trespass again?”
“I wanted to apologize for the other day. I was just worried about Betty.”
Alice was very taken aback by this change of temperament.
“I came here to ask you, as nicely as possible if you would sign a form to release Betty to us at the end of the week. We all want you to be happy at The Farm, but I want Betty to be happy and safe too. You won’t believe me but the Sisters of Quiet Mercy are evil. I know you think you can trust them because they took care of you and Polly but you can’t. They’re force-feeding her drugs because they have a deal with Hiram Lodge. I think these drugs are the reason people in Riverdale are having seizures, to begin with.”
“These are very strong accusations you’re making.”
“Betty told me, Mrs. Cooper. I don’t know if you’ve seen the people there, but it’s clear they’re all high on drugs. In fact, they’re tricked into taking them willingly, disguised as candy. They can’t think for themselves while they’re there.”
“Then how come they haven’t been closed down yet if they’re doing all of these things you say they are?”
“I’m working on it, but I can’t carry on with my life, knowing she’s in there.”
“But-”
“Mrs. Cooper,” Jughead cut her off, “I love your daughter. She’s the most important thing in the world to me. She is my world. She deserves better than this. If you won’t leave your cult to stay with her, then at the very least let her stay with people who love her and who will care for her. If after all this, you still won’t release her to us, to me, I will find another way. I won’t give up on her. Ever.”
