A short, red headed girl ran down dozens of streets, dodging the dazzling lights that shone down their bright rays onto the wet pavement , constantly flickering on and off because of the heavy rain. The street lights highlighted that the streets were littered with trash, also lighting up all the dark corners, seeing the cracks and chips in the old buildings, the uncared pavement covered with smashed glass...This is a constant reminder of how dangerous this area is.
Gazing up into the black sky, Kai wondered:
"Who has been punished tonight?"
Then she ran towards a tall building, going up a flight of stairs.
She shook a set of keys from her khaki trousers, opening the lock of a tall rusty door. It opened with a loud creek, Kai gazed inside. A hesitant silence followed. There was no one at home. Shrugging off her leather jacket, she walked towards the living room and flopped herself onto the couch, then flipped open her phone, searching up the latest news of her town, Baloh:
Bypassing this set of rules will be foreseen with a punishment or a fine of 300 dollars.
"Yeah-yeah, we know.." — Kai whispered sarcastically, scrolling further down the page.
Nothing seemed extreme. Just the usual: shoplifting, car accidents, another robbery. But then a sudden word caught her attention and made her heart stop.
"Louise?" — she whispered, staring in disbelief at the screen of her phone. The words swam before her eyes as she tried to focus. After a couple of run-throughs across this news article, she finally convinced herself with what has happened to her brother. She dropped her phone in shock, but then returning to her senses, she quickly looked through the post, finding out at what time and where this event had occurred.
Brew Street 6, 22:56
With tears running down her face, blurring her vision, it took her a few seconds to adjust and run out of her apartment, slamming the door behind her, then running out onto the raining streets.

Kai scanned the street. There were police cars and ambulances lined up, driving up towards the alleyway. This was where the last time her brother was seen. With the murderer. She walked up towards a group of investigators, trying to catch their attention. Finally, one of them looked up from their notes and stared at Kai.
"You are not supposed to be here," he explained, pointing towards the bright yellow police tape surrounding them, "Unless your a family member or carer of the victim."
The green-eyed girl was close to breaking down, but she managed to whisper: "I am his sister,"
The investigators looked up at Kai with a new interest. They piled her with a dozen questions, before letting her even speak. But this whole conversation was pointless. She knew that they wouldn't do anything about this. This was just another "disappearance" of a person. It'll be stored in a computer, eventually disappear between the thousands of cases that happen every year in Baloh. The chance of finding her twin brother was disappointingly low.
She'll have to find him herself, but before leaving to find her sibling, she had to go home and gather some resources. Money, food, equipment, a set of clothes, and maybe even somewhat melee weapon... She acknowledged the fact that this, in fact, is dangerous, but she was filled with grief and anger. She has to find him.
Filled with despair, Kai walked quietly up the streets. She remembered that she forgot to close the door but she didn't care at this point. All she wanted was a clear mind and some rest. Seconds after she opened the door to the apartment, she fell onto the sofa, and her mind submerged into darkness.
