The Long Game (Ruby)

"I never wanted to hurt you. To be honest, I think you're too good for me. That's why I never said anything." you said and Ruby turned to you and you now looked on the floor.

"What do you mean?" asked Ruby uncertainty and got a bit closer to you.

"I don't know. Like a person one day, next day don't," you said and you looked back up at him "it's how my mind works."

Ruby looked down and thought about what you just said and how to respond. He looked back up at you and then you looked back up at him.

"Look. There's something called the long game I'm willing to play. I'll wait till the ends of the earth, for you." said Ruby and he caressed your left cheek with his right hand which made you turn pink in the face.

"Whatever is going on in Y/N's mind, I'm willing to find out. I'll wait for your heart to find your true soulmate. Even if it means you trying out the Cesar salad on the menu even though I don't recommend it." Ruby said, making you giggle.

"So go on. Try all the different meals, entrées, sweets, anything on the menu. Just know, nobody tastes like this Ruben." said Ruby as he got close to your face.

"What does this Ruben taste like?" you asked as you got even closer to Ruby with a smirk.

"You'll find out. Once you realize, I'm going to be the love of your life." said Ruby and he backed away from being in front of you.

You smiled and blushed even more by what Ruby said to you. Both of you started to stare at each other until you heard your phone ringing signaling somebody is calling you.

You picked up your phone to see your mom calling.

"Ruby, I got to go. See you later." you said as you gathered your belongings and left out of the front door of Ruby's house.

Ruby smiled and sat back on his bed as he thought of you later on that night.

A year later, you and Cesar were at a good place in your relationship with each other. You couldn't help but think what would be like to be with Ruby. The words he said that one day on spring break help repeating in your head ever since.

Ever since that day, Ruby has given you gifts that were so meaningful for you which made your heart melt in happiness. Sometimes, you forgot that you were in a relationship with Cesar.

Cesar noticed the little gifts that Ruby got for you which made him feel a way. He felt betrayed until he realized what he had to do.

"Y/N." said Cesar as he entered your room with an upset face.

You looked up from your phone and you saw Cesar upset which made you worried.

"Cesar? What's wrong? Is it something about the gang?" you asked as both of you moved to the end of your bed to sit.

"No. It's about us." said Cesar and you looked at him with upset eyes and then you looked away.

"Hey...Y/N, it's okay." said Cesar and you looked back up at him.

"It's Ruby, isn't it?" asked Cesar and you slowly nodded.

"Cesar, I'm so so-"

"No need. We just lost our spark. To be honest, I don't think you were interested in me before we started to date." said Cesar.

"But-"

"No. I know how you looked at Ruby. You don't think I noticed all the gifts he gave you." said Cesar and he took his left hand out signaling you to look at the gifts Ruby gave you.

You looked back to Cesar with a sad face.

"Look, I'll be fine. Next time before dating somebody, make sure you listen to your heart. Your heart belongs to Ruby." said Cesar and he gave you a kiss on the forehead and left your bedroom.

You lean back and land on your bed with millions of thoughts of what to do now. You lean back up, grab your purse, and leave your house jogging to where you need to go.

You arrived at Ruby's house a few minutes later with your heart beating out of your heart. You finally know what you want in your life and you are willing to get it right now.

"Ruby! Ruby!" you shouted in front of Ruby's house and a few moments later, Ruby came out and saw you with a small smile.

Ruby jogged up to you with a worried face.

"Y/N, what's wrong?" asked Ruby and you got closer to him.

"You're the love of my life." you said proudly to Ruby whole staring into his eyes.

He looked from your eyes to your lips in one second staring at them. Before he could kiss you, you quickly kissed him first.

That first kiss ended with you kissing him a second and third time before you stopped kissing him.

"I'm sorry. You probably don't like me now. I'm going to go home." you said and you started to walk home before Ruby grabbed your right hand with his and pulled you back.

Ruby looked into your eyes as he pulled you closer to him.

"I want you. Only you." said Ruby and he kissed you but with passion which made you smile and you kissed him back outside on the last night of spring break.
