the pulled-apart world scatters
its bad news like a brush fire,
the ink bleeds out the day's undoing,
and here we are again: alive.

what's left of the woods is closing in.
don't run. open your mouth big
to the rising and hope to your god
your good heart knows how to swim.

HEARNE FOWLER lost everything, as all Greek heroes do

HEARNE FOWLER lost everything, as all Greek heroes do. Her entire family--her entire species--died in one fell swoop of napalm. Against all odds, Hearne survived while even the strongest died, leaving her nine, alone, without a home. It led her to Athena Demaine, an associate of her family.

As the world continued spinning Hearne had to, too. She occupied her time with weaponry, combat, reading, embroidery. Anything to keep herself occupied. Because while Athena's home may have been an idyllic place it went against Hearne's nature to simply rest. How could she rest when her family's killer was still out there, roaming free? How could she rest when she was alive and her family wasn't?

By the age of fourteen, Hearne believed that, one day, she would put her skills to use. She would continue her species and avenge her family. As her family always said: "Blood must have blood."

When Athena said for her to join a team of young heroes in an effort to burn off the exhaust of Hearne's powers, her first thought was that she never would. But she had few options when her powers kept building without somewhere to put them.

So Hearne Fowler joined a team of heroes. She wasn't anything close to one, but she was one thing; a warrior. And warriors always made it out on top.

And warriors always made it out on top

note.finally republishing the hunt! i'm gonna be honest here: i really don't have the energy rn--or attention span--to re-edit 100,000+ words. i'm too busy for that. so the first act will be left as-is, maybe a few changes to touch-up on hearne's powers, but that'll be all. the writing in the second act will be MUCH better, and a few ideas will be re-worked. sorry y'all
