Chapter 1: Ghosts of the Past

Callie's POV:

Callie took a deep breath and stepped on stage along with Marie and they began to open the concert with calamari inkantation. However, Callie noticed an octoling wearing octarian shades holding an octoshot. ' Huh?' Callie thought she shook her head and the octoling was gone ' just my imagination.'

Callie relaxed and began to sing bomb rush blush. Around a third of the way through Callie began to notice more octolings wearing octoling shades and holding octoshots...

Callie tensed up but finished the song. Just as Marie was about to sing, the tide goes out. An octoling wearing the shades aimed at an ink zooka at Callie and Marie.

Suddenly A black-haired inkling with red tints at the bottom leaped down from the top of the stage and landed right on the octoling. The inkling wore A skull bandana and a black v neck tee. His shoes were Punk Blacks. Callie's mind wandered to the incident four years ago.

~four years ago. Octo crater~

Agent one and agent zero fought back to back taking down swarms of octarians and octolings alike. Then came the mech. It stood 6 stories tall, a block wide and equipped with all sorts of weapons, case in point a laser that was the only opening. Zero grabbed an ink grenade. It was a different color though so if he was caught in the blast...

Zero threw an auto bomb at the swarm of octarians keeping them busy, zero reached the laser and pulled the pin as the laser fired. Zero jammed the bomb in the laser but not until he was severely injured. The mech exploded in an explosion of pink and red.

One turned around to find zero gone all that was left was his weapon and his hero transponder.

Callie never felt so alone in her life. Her best friend, her boyfriend zero had just died before her eyes and she couldn't help but look for him.

~present day. Starfish mainstage~

Callie stood there in shock at what was happening. The inkling that had just saved her and Marie's lives went right back to work, throwing a splat bomb, followed by a Fizzy bomb, and then an auto bomb. He finished up quickly with A Splashdown followed by a few shots with his main weapon.

The stranger then disappeared into the shadows as if he was never there A ghost from the past...

~Ride home~

Callie and Marie entered the taxi and prepared for the hour-long ride home. Callie's thoughts started to wander, she could have sworn that she knew that inkling. But couldn't place her finger on it. The only black haired inklings she knew were Ember and Zero. But Zero had been dead for four years now so it couldn't be him, could it?

Callie began to think about how the hero transponder she had repaired and kept as a memento was missing and zero's old gear was gone as well. The inkling handled his way around the weapon even better than Callie and Marie. Perhaps even the Champion. The way he handled his hero shot was just stunning...

'Wait, hero shot?!' Callie thought 'only agents can use those they can't be shot by anyone else. ' so the masked figure had a status with the new squid beak splatoon. That narrows it down she thought. But with the growing number of inklings and octolings in inkopolis, those who use a hero shot replica were very high. Callie sighed audibly and Marie turned to her.

Marie: you ok? You have seemed off since the concert.

Callie nodded and went back to her thoughts when she noticed A red charger beam aimed at her and Marie. As the shot was fired the inkling from before blocked the shot with his body and slammed into the ground as Marie grabbed her charger and fired...

Zero's POV:

Zero woke up in a hospital bed sunflower flying over him.

Callie: is he up doctor?

Doctor jelly: yes but please he needs...

Doctor jelly opens the door to find an empty bed, and 21 squid coins with a note saying thank you.

Doctor jelly: time.

Zero leaped from roof to roof until he landed on the top of Marie and Callie's apartment complex. He set up camp ready for over a decade of being up here.

Zero closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep.
