Three hollow, rejected years.

Without fail, you had attended every single match, tournament, playoff— anything involving the Seijoh Volleyball team to be exact, for one reason and one reason only: Iwaizumi, Hajime; your Achilles Heel. To be more precise, perhaps it would be better to rephrase that in his perspective, you were the girl whose face he couldn't forget because it was one he dreaded seeing at the conclusion of every game. On more occasion than one, he often repeated like a broken record that he "hates girls that squeal over guys nonsensically."

Usually those words were directed to the number of fangirls Oikawa, Toru collected like pollen on a spring day, but it would be wrong to say those words didn't apply to you as well. How you'd watch from the back of the stands, thoughtfully to not disturb his performance in the game should he spot you, but at a distance you could swoon wholeheartedly at just how sincerely passionate he played on the court.

You could've spent these last few years in your high school career peacefully, without frantically worrying about what he thought of you, but he was just that captivating ever since your first year, you stupidly told him that. Today marks the last game of the season, only because the team had lost. A team who had a brilliant season up until that point had suffered a sour defeat and lost the chance to fight for the representative title for the prefecture in the upcoming National Tournament.

From your seat in the stands you watched as the last lights of joy fled from the team's expressions and their shoulders slump disheartedly. Tears that fell from their eyes were also being wept by the spectators in the stands. In their farewell greeting of thanks to the fans that had come to watch, for the first time ever, your eyes had locked gazes with the only person you ever watched on that court. Iwaizumi managed to spot you in the stands and oh how his face twisted from remorse to irritation the second he saw you.

Following the conclusion of every game, the spectators filed out from the gym and congregating outside was Oikawa's herd of diligent fangirls waiting impatiently to cheer up the idol of their affection. You, too, always waited after the games for your own reasons— to one day hopefully strike up a meaningful conversation with Iwaizumi, or even just a few words beyond "no" would suffice.

This was your last chance at the only goal you had in attending these games.

You stood behind a pillar in wait, like always, and after a few minutes, heard the fangirls start squealing; the volleyball team had exited the gym. From behind the pillar, you peaked your head out to see their heads hanging lower than normal and the gloomy atmosphere that persisted about them was unnatural but expected for an outcome like today. The only person with the slightest semblance of a smile on his face being Oikawa— he couldn't possibly disappoint his fans even today, you thought.
