Long ago, in a small village in Senegal, west Africa, there were two young girls named Coumba. While they shared a father, one Coumba was the daughter of their father's first wife and the other Coumba was the daughter of their father's second wife.
The first wife was a fine mother and raised her daughter well. Coumba was very well mannered, respectful, and kind. She loved her family very much and treated her father's second wife as her own mother.
When Coumba's mother, the first wife, died, the second wife was made to care for the first wife's daughter. However the second wife was very wicked and her daughter disrespectful. The second wife and her daughter, Coumba, rested all the day long and forced the other Coumba to do all the housework.Still, the second wife did not want Coumba around.
