MAX

I woke with a start and looked around. Where the heck was I? I felt stuff in my arms and looked to see tubes and other medical things coming out of them. I also found that my belly was back to the way it was before, all nice and round. I actually smiled at it and touched it softly. Kasai... I thought to myself. I hated him for so long and yet, he understood and was just happy to be with me and happy that I wanted to protect him. I mean, I don't know if it's going to be a girl or a boy, but I imagine a boy. I took all my frustrations about everything going on out on him when he had no say in the matter any more than I did. All I was doing was fooling myself and then I got myself trapped in my own mind as I fooled myself into thinking it was him instead of me...

"Oh, you're up."

I looked over and saw this lady with big curly graying red hair and goofy Harry Potter glasses looking at me with a cup of coffee in her hand and a robe on. Where the heck am I?

"Who..."

"Ah, yes, I'm India Market, Doctor Market, but you're welcome to call me India."

"Okay... um... where am I? Where are my parents?"

"Your parents are at home. They go there to sleep since they both can't sleep here and then your Dad usually come in the morning to watch over you. Regarding your location, you're in a makeshift hospital/clinic."

"This looks like a large storage unit." I said, taking in the exposed insulation and steel beams.

"Well, it kind of is. Dr. Bluewater couldn't find a place to have proper equipment." I nodded, remembering him saying something to that effect. "It's very nice to finally speak with you, Max. David has told me so much about you... especially your predicament." She said, lifting her mug to me.

I looked down at my belly and then pulled the sheets over it. Dr. Market didn't seemed too fazed by it and just stared at me calmly.

"Don't worry, Max, I'm only here to help."

"Where's Dr. Bluewater?"

"He's sleeping on the cot in the back. I was just about to head to bed myself when I saw that you had woken up. I'm a xenologist, if you want to know."

"That's the study of aliens and anything extraterrestrial, right?"

"Precisely." She said with a smile, her green eyes crinkling.

"So... I guess you've seen him then?"

"The baby?" I nodded. "I have indeed. Would you like to see it? I know your parents said everything was quite difficult before you went into your coma and so you haven't been able to have a proper sonogram."

Coma... coma... SHIT!

"Can I make a phone call?"

"Did you want to call your parents?"

Well, usually that would be the first priority... "No, actually, I need to call a friend."

"Do you know their number?"

"I..." Shit, I don't know it. It's stored in my phone. "Crap, I don't know it by heart..."

"I can call your parents and then you can tell them to bring you phone."

"Okay..."

India took her phone out of the pocket on her robe and dialed my parents.

"Hi, Mr. Taylor? This is India Market... No, nothing's wrong; in fact, there is someone you would like to talk to you."
