A glimpse of the past.

Anika was still rolling on the bed unable to sleep when there was a sudden power cut and everything in the room blacked out. That's when she heard the sound of footsteps approaching towards her room.

"Sid is that you?" Anika called out but no response from the other side. As she took baby steps towards the door, she hit herself against someone and was about to fall when a strong pair of hands caught hold of her. She was familiar with the touch, and the fragrance around her, she knew it was him. Before she could say something, the lights turned on and her eyes met his.

Realizing their position, they adjusted themselves and Shivaay took out his phone voluntarily, in front of Anika.

"Happiest birthday darling!" He spoke over the phone. That was when Anika realized the date, May 27th, the day that she always felt excited till five years back. It was her birthday.

May 27th, six years ago.

Anika's phone continuously popped up messages five minutes before 12.00 AM that day.

"Anika shall we bunk today's classes?😪" Mallika texted her.

"Anu I want you to buy a gift for my girlfriend! You know how bad my choice is, please help me! 😫" Rudra texted.

"Anika send pictures of your design assignment. Tomorrow is the last day for submission and I didn't even start! 😖" Om texted.

"Anu Parul ma'am told me to remind you about the quiz tomorrow " Gauri's text message popped up.

Shivaay you also send something stupid! Why late?! Anika spoke loudly, much irritated that no one actually remembered her birthday. The clock struck 12.00 AM and she threw her phone away not wanting to see any more messages. She turned off the lights and shut her eyes tightly disappointed with her friends, especially with her boyfriend.

"Happiest birthday darling!" She heard a familiar voice coming from nearby.
"Shivaay, where are you?" She called out to him, "Anu, in your heart."
"I know that." bluntly replying, she continued realizing what she meant "I mean I know you are right here."

She turned the lights on to see Shivaay standing at the entrance of her room. In happiness, she jumped out of her bed and hugged him tightly.

"I hate you for making me wait for your wishes!" She said hitting his arms.
"Hawww what should I do when you made me run around the college to hear your wishes?" He asked when she chuckled.
"Tit for tat huh?" She asked swinging her arms around his neck.
"Of course, Shivaay returns everything with interest." He told smirking in the best way possible.

"You are not going to..." Her voice trailed off as she remembered Shivaay's birthday when she applied cream on his entire face.
"Yes I'm going to do the same." He smirked again.
"You don't have a cake right now!" She laughed realising the fact she stated.

"That's true. What do I do?" saying he was still in thoughts when she took a jar full of water from a nearby table and threatened him, "Shivaay dare you do anything, I will splash water on you!"
"Anika!" saying he stepped forward only to get wet. Anika did as she told shocking him.

"Fhat the wuck!" He almost hollered.

"Guys?!" Shivaay and Anika heard Mallika's surprised voice from behind. Turning back, they saw their entire gang looking suspiciously at them.

"H-Hi..." Anika stammered.
"Shivaay when did you come?" Mallika asked when he said trying to sound confident, "Rudra didn't you tell Mallika?!"
"What Bhai?" Rudra asked confused.
"That only." He said bluntly making everyone confuse.

To change the conversation, Anika interrupted, "Why did you guys come here?! To know my answers for bunking classes, buying gift, assignment pictures, and quiz?" She asked seriously.

"Happy birthday Anu!" everyone said in chorus making her smile widely.
"Sorry we wanted to give you a surprise." they said holding their ears.

"By the way why did you splash water on Bhai?" Rudra asked curiously.
"For sending a message like you guys. Next is your turn only!" saying she started chasing Rudra around.

Anika laughed her heart out thinking that day but soon realized Shivaay's eyes on her.

"I mistook this to be my room." saying he left from there.

Anika was completely indulged in thoughts, "Why did he come here? Whom did he wish?! Did his phone even ring? Does he remember my birthday by any chance?!"

She didn't know the answer to any of her questions but slept peacefully for the next eight hours.

At 8.20 AM the next morning, Anika sat up straight on the bed realizing she was in her boss's house. Before she could react any further, Dadi came in to the guest room.

"Sorry Dadi. I slept off! It's really late." She said gazing at the clock on the wall.
"It's okay, Anika. Did you have proper sleep or not?" She asked out of concern and she nodded back in positive.

"Happy birthday Anu!" hollered Sid in excitement, as he entered the room.
"Thanks Sid." Anika smiled.

As Dadi excused herself post wishing Anika, Sid sighed "I think I added your birthday as a reminder long back. I got the reminder notification now, thanks to my phone!"
"So you forget my birthday every year?!" She asked dramatically making him feel guilty in real.
"Chill Sid." Anika chuckled looking at his expressions.

Dadi joined them back, with a package in her hands,"This is for you." saying she opened it showing a beautiful saree neatly folded.
"But Dadi, you bought this saree for sir's wife few days back. How can I..." Anika was interrupted.
"You are special to me, so take it without any excuses!" She said kissing her forehead.
