Chapter Twenty-Two: Game Plan

Start from the beginning

Suddenly, I blinked for a moment and when I reopened my eyes we were no longer in darkness, but in a field with light shining around like we were outside. I was standing in-between Dick and Conner, my eyes flickering between them both.

"I know you," Conner spoke his gaze on me and Dick.

"I'm Vanessa Young," I replied back to Conner, offering a smile to him.

"I'm Dick Grayson," Dick had spoke.

"How did you find me?" Conner asks us, as his eyes flickered between us both.

"You're part of our family, Conner. We'll always find you," Dick replied to him, making my smile grow wider as the Titans are a family.

"Thank you," Conner said after a moment. "Both of you," his eyes landing on me.

"You are very welcome," I told Conner as he smiles for a second, before closing his eyes and taking a deep breath as he soaked up the sun and the air around him. His head titled back like he was staring up at the sky. Within a moment, his head came back straight his eyes reopened, his gaze turned to us.

"You might wanna stand back," he told us with a cheeky grin on his face. Dick and I nod to him, but I felt Dick grab my hand and pulled me back a few inches. We both watch Conner as he crouches to the ground, his left hand in a fist on the floor. Suddenly, he leaps into the air and jumped right high, like he was flying, maybe he was, this was his mind.

"Show off," I mumbled but I hear Dick chuckle to himself, meaning he thought it was funny. I turn my gaze to him, the sun shining down onto his warm chocolate eyes, making me smile softly...

My eyes shot open, my head railing back down to look at Conner who was still being held. I took a few deep breaths as that was a strange feeling.

"Conner?" Dick shouts over to him, to make sure that it was really him.

"Please, let me go," Conner began his gaze on Dick. "So I can end this," out of the corner of my eye, I see Dick turn his head and nod to Rachel, gesturing to her to let him go. She lowers her hand and the tentacle vanishes from her back and the swirls of darkness lifted from Conner, vanishing in the air. I waved my hand over Conner and the pink cuffs snapped open and fell to the floor and dispersed into the air, leaving nothing behind. Donna also dropped her rope, which stopped glowing, from around Conner.

"Thank you," Conner was grateful for our help, but this wasn't over, and he had to do one last thing. His gaze shot pass me and to the jeep behind us, his expression changed to a cold dark stare, making me step to left, I could feel Dick's breath creep down my back as Conner passes. Gunfire enter my ears, but the bullets bounced right off of him, the Son of Superman indeed, and the men ran off as they knew they couldn't beat him...

I walk over to Rachel, slinging my arm around her, crushing her in a side-way hug. As we walk down to the jeeps, as the team was gathering down there. Everyone was safe, and no one had died, meaning my dream was wrong. I stood to the right of Rachel, as to her left was Hank and Kory, to my right was Donna, Dawn and Gar, who I smile to him.

"I did this," Conner began as he was in front of us, before turning to face the group. "It wasn't me, but I did this. I'm sorry," Conner was apologising he had no control over.

"We know. It's good to have you back," Donna replied to Conner taking herself inches away from him. "Did anyone ever tell you, you can really throw a punch?" Donna jokes with him, making him let out a chuckle. Just then clapping sounds came from behind Conner, making me look pass him to see citizens applauding us for saving them. Rachel laughs as she found this amazing, I crush her into a side-way hug again, as I offered a smile as we were heroes...

"Come," The faint word came to my ear, but I had no idea who it belonged too. "Deny one's self no longer," the word continued, but I didn't notice I was began to move, though I wanted to stop, my legs didn't. I made my way down the fair, as whispers race around my mind, though they made no sense. Just then, I came to a halt in my tracks, to notice a little girl staring at me from the side. "Death awaits..." the voice rang out in my head, as a cold chill ran down my spine, making my expression drop as I stared out into the night...

I felt a shift next to me, making me snap back into reality, as I took my gaze to see Dawn crouched in front of the girl.

"Is this your dolly?" She asks the sweet little girl, holding out her dolly to her, and the girl grabs it off of her. "She's safe now," Dawn continued, looking at the little girl.

"Thank you," the girl's mother states to her, grateful for all the help that we've given them.

"Of course," Dawn replied to her. A sudden crackling sound came to ear, making me frown, as it sounded like electricity... I see the little girls face turn to horror as her mother clutches her tight making Dawn and I turn around to see the tower where Donna had smashed in too, began to lean our way. I gasp as Dawn shot to her feet.

"Get back! Everybody, get back!" Dawn shouts to everyone as they began to rush out of the way, but the tower was going to kill someone if I don't stop it. I quickly took my stance and shot my hands up at the tower, a large horizontal rectangle wall of pink energy formed at the front, and the tower hit right into it, but it was heavy and electricity spat out. I began to strain as the weight of the tower was too much making me lose my footing and I began to slowly be pushed back, like the force of the tower was pushing me. Cracks began to form on the wall, making my eyes widen as the tower kept leaning slowly, but I became weaker.

"I-I can't hold it!" I yell out for everyone to hear as the cracks began to spread from the middle, reaching to the corners of the wall. I groan loudly, using my strength to push back... Suddenly, the wall smashes and the tower fell but electricity zapped at my chest, sending me flying backwards and to the ground...

Death awaits...
