We clearly were not winning. The giants were multiplying like crazy. The hellhounds were attacking out of nowhere. Our team was down. Jason was sprawled on the ground, a hydra leaning over him. Piper was running to help him, but she was knocked off her feet by a very angry harpy. Hazel was nowhere to be seen, and Frank was just barely holding off against a blood-thirsty empousa. Leo had somehow managed to start up a tractor and was bonking some monsters with his trusty mallet. However, that didn't seem to be doing much. Percy and Annabeth were about fifty yards away from me, fighting in synch and chopping down enemies. Even though they looked like they had practiced this a million times, their attacks started to become seemingly more strained and weary. I myself was holding up quite well, though. Ya ok, maybe not. I kept summoning more undead warriors, but it didn't seem to be doing much, and I was getting very exhausted.
I think eventually it became too hard, and I just passed out. Somehow, when I came to, there were no more monsters, except for the few hundred bodies littered across the battlefield, and a couple statues. It had seemed the rest of them had just run away; but from what?
I looked around and saw what, actually who, had helped us. Athena was standing over Percy and Annabeth with a bloody spear and an unpleasant look on her face. She was frowning at Percy's unconscious body, lying limp in Annabeth's lap.
"He's weak. I don't know what you see in him, dear," said the goddess to her very tired and wounded daughter
"Mom," Annabeth grumbled,"we've talked about this."
"Yes, yes, I know. It's just....ugh. Poseidon," mumbled Athena, glaring daggers at Percy, who was now starting to wake up.
Personally, I don't know how I feel about Athena, but I was definitely glad she saved our butts from extinction.
"Anywho," I said, trying to break the tension."Thanks for stopping by, but I think we can handle it from here."
"Mmm...is that so? Okay, bye."And then the goddess turned into an owl and flew off into the rising sun.
"Well, isn't she just a bundle of joy,"said a voice behind me.
I jumped, not having realized that Leo had sprouted up behind me. He tossed his mallet in the air and gave me that cheesy grin he's so proud of.
