thankfully steven found an additional mattress for damien downstairs, but based on his mood lately, steven wasn't exactly thrilled with the current living situation.
now was the third night of damiens stay , his rust-red dodge ram which looks as if it was ripped right from the 90s was parked close by, serving as a mere dump for his belongings.
introducing charlie and damien was a breeze, they got along alright and he even got a job at the bakery, though it was partly for the free  food i was still happy for him.
my brothers personality had ever so slightly begun shining through, coming out more and more as this place began to feel like home, displaying traits i could only imagine stemmed from my fathers upbringing.. still a fairly untouched subject

my feet dangle off the side of the bed with my mind swaying from thought to thought as my legs do the same, constantly going from a positive thing such as finding my brother, to the fact my father had died before i could understand his choices
stevens abrupt entrance snaps me back to reality in a flash, his curly black hair left damp from the recent shower as his face seemed ready to rest
eliza was sound asleep along with charlie, but my brothers sleep was hard coming
he had been sitting outside for hours now,  watching the sky change ever so slightly from sunset to midnight, a thing he did each night

"i'm sorry about all the people"
"don't be" steven lays down with insincerity resting in his pitch
"well" i move to pull the blanket over me "you're not exactly thrilled about it"
"i'm still okay with it"
i raise an eyebrow at his false reassurance
"okay, it's annoying at times but i'll live with it"
his renewed answer was far from truthful but much closer than before allowing me to leave the subject behind
"so" i look around, trying to sway the conversation towards my prime focus "do you think blue diamonds still.. mad..?"
"she hasn't come to earth looking for us.. so no?"
after the way we left, it was hard to believe shed be fine with us

steven was asleep in an instant, but i couldn't do anything other than stare outside towards the stars wondering if my brother was still fixated on the same blueless sky.
my prolonged glare into the distance was interrupted when movement startled me into the real world, finally realising that i had been awake like this for hours
steven rolled over, his arm wrapping around my waist before tightening slightly as i flinched in surprise
my face began to heat up against the soft white pillow when stevens chest pressed against my back, the strange comfort sending me to sleep.

the morning arrived quickly after that, steven waking up at the same time as me.. which was a first
"morning" he spoke whilst checking his phone
i repeat the greeting back to him before he leaves the room a mere minute ahead of me

eliza was already awake and waiting patiently for someone to make her breakfast, her eyes lighting up with stars at the sight of a person tall enough to reach the cereal
she politely requested her usual meal which steven made and she took a seat at the table, her short legs swinging in the air
i was greeted with an instant good morning from the little girl as her food was placed in front of her which she wasted no time enjoying

"wake up" i shook my brothers shoulder, something i didn't mind doing at this point
"waiiit..." he groaned, trying to sheild his face from the beaming light
charlie awoke from the nearby commotion and accepted that rest was too far gone to reach again

steven sat at the table next to eliza, skipping breakfast out of pure laziness
my brother eventually carried himself to the shower after more of my insisting, walking slowly and dramatically with a tired groan.
charlie also made his way over and immediately filled the table with an awkward silence as soon as he sat.
talking to him after the incident was.. okay to say the least.
i had introduced him to my brother and exchanged only necessarily words when needed, leaving the topic raw and untouched.
stevens apparent disliking to him added more tension between the tables guests which instantly made eliza the only carefree occupant
