Four Words

60 4 1

The inevitable silence
Became prominent
The second the words
Disappeared into thin air
Yet thoughts broke out
Attempting to decipher
The four harsh words
Muttered under a broken breath

The words choking both souls
As they tried to avoid the truth
As they tried to melt away
And forget what was said
It was far too late for that
As the four simple words
Danced amongst the room
Making it harder to breathe

The inevitable silence
Became inescapable
The minute the yelling began
They knew there would be no turning back
As the words carelessly slipped
Out of the mouth of a broken soul
The words contributing
To another broken soul
The impact four words can have
Said in haste and malice unintentionally
Yet it is still the lousy truth:
I don't love you.
