(Part 1)

On a chilly Wednesday in the winter months of California, just after a harsh downpour of rain, a woman walking along to a lunch appointment jumped in surprise as the man walking beside her first grasped her arm, breathing heavily, then collapsed entirely at her feet. At first she thought he was trying to grab her in some lewd way and lept away from him, but she quickly scurried back over when it became apparent that he was simply having a heart attack.

A towering figure with dark skin stood staring from across the street as the woman, with the aid of several other bystanders, checked over the man and dragged him off the sidewalk to a more comfortable patch of grass. The figure stalked over quietly, along with a few others, as the man gasped for breath then lost consciousness.

It took longer than it should have for someone to call the police. And longer still for an ambulance to come barreling around the corner, pull straight onto the grass, and back up to the man.

A crowd had fully formed by now, but parted easily to let the Medics do their job. Their usual routine, checking the man's vitals and asking onlookers questions about the incident, took only a few minutes, then they lifted him on a gurney and slide him into the back of the ambulance. The dark figure climbed in with them. Nobody caught it and the nurses didn't notice as they closed the doors and sped off to the hospital.
