"Say Mama"

6 years have passed since I left the Philippines. 6 years have passed since I last saw my family. A lot of things changed including my beliefs, opinions, and personality. I think I've grown into someone I've never expected me to be.

I'm Rica Chanelle Rivero or simply as Shan Uy, a twenty four year old paediatrician from Sydney, Australia.

"Say Mama Shan"

"Ma ma Shan" My four year old little Lili said.

"Very good! Oh kiss mama" And she gave me a peck in the cheek.

We're here eating lunch somewhere since the weather is nice and it's a good day to walk and have a stroll outside. "Shan I need to tell something to you." Dylan who was feeding Lili said out of the blue. "What is it?" I asked without looking at him as I continue eating my Salmon.

"Remember what I told you before, the seminar I'll be attending in the Philippines for 1 week." His reaction was kinda weird since it looks like he's hesitating to tell me or not.

"What about that?"

"Um. I can't go and I hope you'd be the one to substitute me." He looks at me with begging eyes.

"U-h, I-ll th-ink about it. But why can't you go?" I didn't expect him to say that to me. All of a sudden I just felt nervous again and all the memories keeps coming back.

"There's a patient I need to operate the day I'll be leaving, and besides I think it's time naman para ayusin na diba?" He looks really serious this time and it feels he really wants me to go back to fix things.

"What were you saying daddy? What's ayusin?" My little englishera Lili blurted out.

"Nothing baby, I'm just telling mama Shan that she needs to fix her broken phone na." Hindi kasi marunong mag tagalog si Lili kaya if there's things na di muna niya pwede marinig o malaman nagtatagalog kami.

"How about the other doctors? Andami kayang mga doctor diyan bat ikaw pa kailangan mag opera?" Pero there's one thing na di parin nagbabago saakin which is nagtatagalog ako pag naiinis ako, I need to clear up something, or parang feeling ko na di yun pwede mangyari.

"Shan, they requested me to operate their son, I can't just reject them just because of a seminar. Please, just think of it as a favor for me please.

"I'll think about it." His face lightened up of what I have said.

"When do you leave?"

"Next week."
