A Second Chance

- Seventeen -

"Lemme know soon okay?"

"Okay", I reply flopping headfirst into my pillow letting out a sigh. I didn't wanna keep Caylen waiting for too long so I decided to call my dad.

The conversation went well you could say... except for the fact that Dad had his "girlfriend" coming over... for dinner... TONIGHT !! Just perfect...

I couldn't go.

I was missing probably the best night of my life where he was taking me somewhere for the night..and it was just us.. no one else.. no interruptions..

 I hated responding to Caylen with a no and I definitely didn't wanna stay home to meet Dad's stupid girlfriend. Like why ?!? WHY tonight..out of the 365 days in the year. It made me angry...annoyed...exasperated..eventually all those feelings built up inside of me till I couldn't take it anymore as I screamed it out into my pillow. 

I just didn't know how to get myself out of the house before dad's girlfriend showed up. I would make some stupid excuse that I was going to a library for a study group but dad wouldn't buy it cuz he knew i wasn't that "studious" of a student. I decided to tell Caylen about it. Not sure if he'd actually give a shit about helping me but atleast he would know I was trying to make it.

After talking to Caylen, we had a plan. 

The school was open all this week afterschool for junior prom meetings and sport practices... I was gonna make up that all juniors were to be present at school at 6pm to begin the meeting about junior prom. It was a pretty good excuse and didn't sound unelaborated or sketchy. Pretty straightforward with hopefully no space for suspicion. I prayed that it would work.

Dad was in the kitchen making dinner..a sight which was hard to find in the house...but he seemed in a pretty good mood. 

"Hey dad.. so I have to attend a meeting at school about junior prom and its mandatory for all juniors to attend...so can I go ?"

He took a few seconds to respond but he finally said, "Umm sure thing but what time does it start and when does it end?"

Oh shit I forgot to plan this out...Meetings wouldn't last for like 3 hours...Plus I didn't know how long I'd be out with Caylen..Crap

"Umm like an hour or two but I mean we'd probably have to like plan stuff out for like the themes and stuff"

It sounded really vague and mixed up and I could see it in dad's face that he was about to throw a guilt trip on me. 

"Well you see, Alexia's coming over tonight and I really wanted you to meet her. Trust me she's really nice and so sweet, I know for sure you two will get along"

I figured out this "Alexia" was his girlfriend and yeah sure I'd like to meet her but I wanted to meet Caylen so much more.. obviously I couldn't tell Dad this outloud so I had to put it in a way where there would be a plus side to me not being here tonight... Time for some kissing-up...

"Well Dad, I know... I'd love to meet her and get to know her but this meeting is mandatory dad and plus you two can spend some alone time together... Please dad??"

I think this bought it. After a while he replied with a sigh...

"Alright you can go...just make sure you're back by 10"

"Thank you thank you so much Dad you're the best.."
Hard to believe those words came out of my mouth but it was worthwhile cuz seeing that smile on dad's face warmed my heart. 

I briskly left the counter and headed upstairs...I had to text Caylen the good news and that the plan worked.
