“Darling” the voice said “We have to go now.”
“We have to go now!”
“Kaida, get up! They are coming!”
I had no idea who was speaking to me, just that it was a very nice voice, male, and hushed. There were sounds of explosions in the distance and the pew-ing of lasers. There was screaming, and knocking on the door. I open my eyes to a grand room, and see a short blond boy right in front of me. He looks about my age, but I don’t really know what my age is, and he is wearing a plain red shirt, with black pants. His light blue eyes are filled with tears.
“Darling, get up. They are almost at our door, we need to protect you, there is a hover-craft outside our window, we need to leave.”
“Okay,” I say. I have no idea who this is, nor who it is almost at our door, but I think I can trust him. I get up out of the bed, quickly throwing on a black and red jacket I see on the back of a fancy armchair.
“You ready?” the boy asks.
“I guess so.” We walk across the carpeted floor to the window, and I instantly see a bright silver vessel floating by our window. I turn around, my light red hair swishing, and just as I get into the vessel, men with guns break into my room. We quickly jump into the vessel and enter a small compartment with a bench on either side. There is a window right behind the bench. I look back and see them firing lasers out of my window, but missing, the hover-craft being too fast. I look over at the blond boy next to me. He smiles at me, trying to comfort me, but it makes me feel even worse. I don’t even know who this is, where I am, what I’m doing, and who those men were chasing me.
“Kaida, are you alright?” the boy asks. I assume that ‘Kaida’ is my name, so I reply with a simple head nod. A man, dressed in a red uniform, holding a gun comes into where the boy and I are sitting.
“My Queen, were you hurt during the rebel attack?” this man asks. Because I am the only woman in the small room, I shake my head. “No, I’m fine.” I say. The boy moves closer to me, puts his arm around me, and says, “It’ll be alright, love. We’ll be just fine.” He looks up at the guard, a signal to leave, which he does, leaving me alone in the small compartment with the familiar yet unfamiliar boy.
“How are you holding up?” I ask, kind of to break the tension. I don’t know him, but here he is, calling me ‘love’ and ‘darling’, and so close to me.
“Alright. But it’s you that really matters, love. I’m just normal, not Elemental like you.”
“Yeah, right.” I play along, not understanding anything of what he just said, and shift a little away from him.
“Where are you taking me?” I ask, curiously.
“To the other Elementals.” he answered, which wasn’t really an answer, but I was still pretending to know what was happening, “It’s not safe in the South anymore. The rebels are getting too strong. So many of them want to capture the Elementals. They think that you should be locked up, instead of in charge.”
“Of course,” I say. I look out the window and see that the landscape has changed drastically. Instead of the small hills and beaches, it’s now heavy woods, with tall trees that are just starting to change colors.
“The East Woods are so pretty this time of year. The leaves. Of course, it’s all thanks to Forrest.” said the blond. At this point, he had moved over towards me, which was awkward. I just nodded and pretended like I knew what he was talking about, but in reality I had no clue.
“Remember when we came here during the summer, and there was that lake, and the cabin that we stayed in?” he asked, still staring out the window at the golden-green trees. When I don’t answer, he turns his head to look at me.
“Remember that, darling?” he asks, this time a bit nervously.
“No, sorry,” I say, “I don’t remember a thing.”
