It was almost 9pm when he knocked on Ajda's door. She opened, surprised to see him at her apartment.
A: ''Can? Are you alright?''
He walked in and past her, ''Ajda, I need you to read something for me.'' She followed him in.
A: ''Can, please calm down, what are you talking about?''
C: ''here, please read a chapter of this book?''
A: ''what...?
C: ''please read...'' he insisted sternly. She sat down and opened the book to read a few pages.
C: ''do you see it?'' he asked anxiously. He was walking up and down the room, clearly agitated.
A: ''see what?''
C: ''the style? Remind you of anyone?''
She read a few more lines.
C: ''Sanem... she writes like that!'' he interrupted her.
Ajda opened her eyes wide, ''Can...''
C: ''no please, read... and give me your opinion.''
She looked at the book again, ''I guess... yes, it is very similar to her writing but... Can...'' she wasn't sure what to tell him and stood up in front of him. '' This is not Sanem, it was written and published after... after she was gone.''
C: ''her body was never found...''
She placed a calming hand on his arm, ''Can, the explosion was very powerful they say.''
He took the book off her hands in anger and opened it to a specific page, ''here, listen to that!'' he read a line that described how the main character saw a man carrying his lover on the beach because she wore heels.
Ajda had no idea what he meant and he grew more frustrated.
C: ''it's us! It happened to us! On our first date, we left the party and went to the beach, she had heels on and I carried her onto the sand!'' he took a breath and went on, ''here as well...'' he turned the pages again and read the last sentence of a paragraph where the siblings were looking at piles of their deceased parents 'wedding pictures and the sister mentioned how there was not a bad one of her mother, the bride.
C: ''Ajda, the book is full of one-liner hidden in the whole story, all of them happened to Sanem and I and no one else but her can know about it!''
Ajda was confused and slightly worried for him, ''Can, please calm down, I understand what you are saying but this is probably a coincidence.''
C: ''no, no way, only she could know these things...''
She wanted to tell him he probably was imagining things he wanted to see but didn't dare to, so she attempted another approach, ''Can... these things... carrying a girlfriend in the sand or commenting on the beauty of the bride... they are common facts about lovers... I... I am so sorry Can, I wish I saw what you were seeing.''
C: ''Ajda, please... listen to me... there are more... things that are so specific, look!'' He madly turned the pages and handed her the book pointing at a passage. She read out loud.
A: '' come on sis' cheer up, there is a mountain of happiness ahead of us...''
C: ''a mountain of happiness... this is our saying; we would tell each other that when facing adversity...'' his eyes were begging her to agree and she had to admit it wasn't a common saying.
A: ''what are you thinking Can? That Sanem is alive?''
C: ''she is Ajda! And she wrote this book to let me know.''
A: ''this makes no sense, why would she disappear? Why would she pretend to be dead and cause all this pain to you and her family?''
C: ''I don't know, I have no idea but this is Sanem and I'm going to find her, please help me?''
She couldn't refuse him and she was intrigued. ''what do you need from me?''
C: ''please find as much information about this Ayse Banu, anything, any small detail please!''
A: ''ok, I will, I'll get everything I can and let you know.''
Can started walking out, as if she would be able to start gathering information as soon as he left.
C: ''I need to talk to my dad.'' He opened the front door and hugged her tight, ''thank you.''
She nodded and watched him run down her apartment building stairs. Can was elated, convincing Ajda was his proof that this was real and he had found Sanem. He sped up home and was relieved to find his father and brother still up.
C: ''Emre, dad, please come, I need to talk to you.'' He told them exactly what he had told Ajda, showing them the pages of the book.
E: ''Can, are you sure this was written recently?''
C: ''it was published a couple of months ago, but regardless of that, this was written by Sanem for me!''
Both Emre and Aziz weren't fully convinced, they knew Can wanted to believe his story more than anything. They wanted to agree and bring him the hope he so needed but they knew this hope would destroy him down the line.
Aziz got up and placed his hand on Can's shoulder, ''Can... you must admit it makes little sense...''
C: ''it does... but dad, I can't ignore it, I know this is her, I know it in my heart, Sanem is out there and I must find her.''
A: ''ok, I will do anything to help then...'' as a father he had no choice but to support his son; whichever way this was going, he would stand by Can.
C: ''thank you, thank you'' he hugged his father, his heart beating against the old man's chest.
Can picked up his laptop and sat outside, furiously typing on the keys and researching everything he could find about the author, the book, Mersin and even where the story was set. He worked all night, feeling more alive than he had in the last 6 months.
I am struggling to answer all the comments but thank you so much, you are all so kind:-) Sorry I caused you a bit of sorrow and stress as well!!
On another note, I want to add that Polen and Yigit are not related in this story as it was another stupid twist I hated in the show.
