"Who cares about that? Shayne said he'd come back! He said he'd be back soon," Damien complained.

"You're still hung up on that," Courtney asked him.

"Of course I am! I've texted and called, but he doesn't reply. I don't know why he would just ignore me if he's not dead."

"He's not ignoring you, Damien."

"Yes, he is! It's been over a month Courtney! He would've messaged one of us. He's gone!"

"Damien, Damien. Breathe," Courtney said, and sat down on a couch with Damien, urging him to breathe slowly and calm down. Mari moved her position so Courtney could see her through the door frame. Mari motioned with her head for Courtney to come over to her.

"How is he," Mari asked her.

"Better. I think," Courtney admitted. "I think he thinks Shayne's wrapped up in this Defy mess."

"Yeah, where do you think he went?"

"I have no idea, but he probably went far," Courtney hypothesized. "Somewhere with no service."

"Yeah, he would've messaged one of us by now, right? I mean, why wouldn't he," Mari wondered.

"I think he wanted to be rid of us," Damien chimed in. "Guys, he's gone. Dead maybe, I mean it's been a month." Courtney and Mari shared a look.

"Damien, that's not true. Shayne's alive, and when he comes back he'll tell us what happened. We're his friends," Mari added, walking towards him.

"Friends don't tell each other everything." Damien stood up and walked by them aggressively, hitting Mari's shoulder.

"Damien, is there something you're not telling us," Mari exclaimed, following him.

"Leave me alone," Damien shouted back.

"That wasn't a no."

"No, that was a leave me alone!" Damien stormed into the bathroom and threw Joven out, who was still washing his hands.

"Damien, what the hell," Joven exclaimed, pushing on the door, but Damien had locked it. Joven sighed and looked at Courtney and Mari.

"What's up with him," he asked them.

"I guess he thinks Shayne's involved with the shutdown. Either that, or he's dead," Mari told him.

"Geez," Joven stated. "He can't lock himself in there forever."

"Maybe we should get him some help," Courtney mentioned, but Mari hesiated.

"Yeah, I don't think he'd be so open to the idea. We can't exactly admit him to a mental institute, but he hasn't committed a crime either," she added.

"We can find something though, right? I mean, we have the right to help him, we're his friends," Courtney piped in.

"The right? You have the right to help me? Who said I asked for your help," Damien shouted, emerging from the bathroom with his face soaked in tears. "Since that text, I have been nothing but depressed. I've been thinking about every worse case scenario, every way Shayne could've died. I don't wanna hurt anymore. If you want to help me, you're going to help me find him." His friends all hesitated and looked to one another.

"Damien, it's been over a month. We really tried our hardest to locate him, but I don't think there's anything else we can find. At least on our own. We could report a missing persons case to the police. Maybe that would make you feel better," Courtney told him, holding his hands. Damien just looked to the floor.
