The Start Of The Introduction

I looked over at the guy I was made sit beside. I am a tall girl but all my height is in my legs so he towered above me sitting down. I almost wanted to ask him to stand up just so I could prove that I wasn't that short.

He had long black hair that as tied back into a ponytail and blue eyes that were currently only focused on the notebook in front of him. He wasn't earing his school jumper so I could see tattoos sneaking out from under the sleeves in his polo.

He made no effort to acknowledge my existence, not wanting to sit there and look like an idiot I took out a notebook of my own to pass the D.E.A.R class. In the whole 40mins, I had to spend, I couldn't get one lyric down in his guy's presence. Whatever I did end writting in that class was probably so bad I had to dispose of via blowtorch.

The bell rang signalling the change of class so I gathered my stuff and headed for Maths. To my surprise, this guy had somehow landed himself in my higher-level maths class. As we stood outside the class waiting on the teacher, my mind ran at a million miles an hour, now was the perfect time to talk to him. I wanted to get to know this dark, mysterious new guy. It didn't help that we spent our first 40 mins together ignoring each other, admittedly him more than me...

He was glued to his phone with his head down and his hair no longer in a ponytail. I might as well mention now that he also had a lot of height in his legs, coupled with his broad shoulders, I was starting to question his age.

I missed my opportunity to converse with him before class and after a minute long debate with myself I played it safe and sat with my regular group for maths. For the duration of the class, my mind played with the idea of 'accidentally' bumping into him in the halls and somehow magically becoming friends.

One hour and twenty minutes. That's how long it took before rumours started circulating about him. Sandra the schools "it" girl claimed that one of her exes friends sister went to his old school.

"He got hopped by some Limerick guys for stealing somebody's girl. I heard he got her pregnant but she had a miscarriage cause he was high key abusive. Mum's life its probably true." her entourage instantly erupted in an echo of 'for real's and 'say god knows's.

Why the fuck would you sear Mun's life for something you're not even sure is true, dumb bitch.

I kept my thoughts to myself, another fight was the last thing I needed.

Needles to say, I didn't talk to him for the whole of first half. I worked up the courage to talk to him just after the bell rang.

He put a black hoodie on over his uniform and seemed contempt in his solitude, not that he had a choice. Thanks to Sandra's bitch ass most of the class was doing a really good job of isolating him, the rumours of him being bad news weren't getting any better.

While I was lost in thought, he was getting away.

"hey," I tapped him on the shoulder making him turn around.

He stared right through me, I felt he was angry that I had interrupted his silence even though he looked unusual calm. I could instantly tell that he didn't want to talk to me but I'd prefer forcing a conversation with him to awkwardly walking way and having everyone in a 10 meter radius know I was x-ed by the new guy.

"You're in my class, right? I'm Diana." I thought he'd take the hint and tell me his name, but he didn't.

"Um, do you already have plans for lunch, I could like, show you around if you want."
In a desperate attempt to fill the silence, my mouth moved before my mind could.

"I'm good "

Luckily for me, he declined. I felt happy and sad as I watched him take two steps to turn in the other direction and leave.

I couldn't focus on practising ukelele in the small school library, all I could do as rehash my stupid pointless conversation. I could have been cute and flirty or cool and indifferent but instead, I was an idiot.
