•Faymin~

"Momma, I don't know what's going on. Every news channel out there is saying all kinds of things." I speak as I stuff a tote full of clothes in the trunk of my black SUV alongside other totes full of necessities.

"Faymin? You ready to go?" My dad asks, rolling down the sidewalk on his wheelchair.

"Mom, I gotta go. We're on our way. Tell them I'll see them soon. Love you guys." I hang up my phone, stuffing it in my pocket before letting out a sigh. "Alright, daddy, work with me here." I wrap an arm around my dads waist and hoist him into the front seat.

My father groans as he settles in. "Alright, let's go before the traffic gets any worse. We have a long drive ahead of us."

I sigh. "Yeah, 20 hours."

"You're the one that decided to take a business retreat in Colorado Springs, woman."

"Oh hush, daddy. It wasn't like that. I had to go if I wanted to keep my job."

"Uh-huh. Sure."

I roll my eyes and shut the door then head on to the drivers side. As soon as I start the engine, the news blasts through the speakers in my car.

"This is a national emergency-"

"Stay inside-"

"The government has been doing some secret testing-"

I shut off the radio and turn to my father. "What do you thinks going on daddy?"

My father shrugs and bites his lip. "I personally think it's just people getting riled up, spreading false information to scare people. I'm sure the president will clear everything up."

"Then why are you rushing me out of Colorado Springs and back to Georgia?" I raise an eyebrow as I begin driving down the road. Good thing is we're close to the highway.

"Because your kids are hearing things on the TV and they must be scared out of their minds." He replies.

"Daddy, aren't you part of the government? Shouldn't you know something?"

"I don't know all that information."

I can tell he's getting irritated, so I stop and change the subject. "So, you like bingo?"

My dad scoffs. "You think because I'm old I like bingo?"

I give him a look.

"Yes, I like bingo." He says, crossing his arms. "You should stop at that diner along the highway."

I chuckle. "Daddy, five minutes ago, you were rushing me out of the house."

"Just do it, woman."

"Okay, old man."

Dad chuckles and leans back in the seat, pulling his baseball cap over his eyes.

"Yep, you're old."

A few minutes later, I'm on the highway, looking for an open diner. "Hey, daddy?"

My dad shuffles and uncovers his eyes. "Yeah, darling?"

"Why is nothing open? I mean, it's only Tuesday."

"Them people on the news must've freaked more people than we thought out."

As I drive by, I see signs on all the stores and diners. They all say 'The dead walk among us.'

What the hell is that about?

"Daddy, no diners are open."

Dad groans. "Of course." He wipes his face and looks out the window. "Damn republicans."

I chuckle. "What do republicans have to do with this?"

Dad grumbles and covers his face. "I'm going to sleep."

~2 hours later~

"Oh my god!" I complain as I lean back into my seat.

"It's just a little traffic, that's all." My father tells me as he munches on a granola bar.

"A little? Dad, this is about, three miles of traffic."

"Won't go any faster with you complaining. Complaining don't solve nothing."

As soon I put my car in park, a few cars start moving forward. I give a victory smile. "Who said complaining won't get me nowhere?" I put my car in drive and start driving, then have to suddenly slam on my brakes because the traffic comes to a complete halt once again. A groan of defeat leaves my lips as I throw myself back into my seat.

"I did." My father smiles proudly.

"Don't start getting cocky now. Traffic should let up soon." I rest my head on the top of my seat and sigh with a glum look on my face. "Remind me why we didn't take a plane."

"Because you're scared of planes."

I glare at my father. "Hand me one of those granola bars, please."

My dad smiles and plops a granola bar into my out stretched hand.

This is going to be a long trip.
