at first you didn't believe that it could be your fault. you blamed them for the things they so carelessly said. you didn't change yourself because as the story book read: you were perfect just the way you were. then the haunting realisation set in that it was you all along. you were the one that chose this path by being you. you had every opportunity to change the way you acted, to stop fighting them, to have ignored them, to have let them win. but by fighting them you became stronger, you thought. even though it tore you down limb by limb. you wanted to fight for what you believed in, to stand alone. but it made you lonely so you played their game. lying. cheating. anything that would get you the win. but it didn't work because it was you. you ended up alone. a victim of them. except you were equally a victim of yourself.
