Jungkook doesn't remember when he first met Jin. But if you ask Jin, it's a memory he could never forget.
"Jinnie! Yah, Kim Seokjin, don't run! Yah!!"
A lady could be seen running after a toddler who was having the time of his life, running away from his mother. It was his favorite time of the day—the park—so why shouldn't he have fun?
If you asked Mrs. Kim, she would say this was the reason she reduced their park visits from twice a week to once. She was running too, breathless, yet her face was filled with joy.
Suddenly, the toddler stopped.
He stared.
His eyes were fixed on someone.
A kid his age was taking pictures with his mom. Jin couldn't look away from him—the kid with bunny teeth who smiled so brightly.
"Mom, look!!"
The other kid was clearly annoyed. The kid with the hat was distracting him from getting his picture taken, and he was wearing a new T-shirt! How dare that kid steal his cool photo moment?!
"Oh look, Jungkookie, it seems like he wants to take a picture with you!" Jungkook's mom noticed the staring boy and walked closer. "Baby, do you want to take a photo? Where's your mom?"
Little Jin was too busy pointing at Jungkook, a finger in his mouth, drool dripping as he giggled. He was just happy seeing the stranger.
"Oookay, come on, buddy." Jungkook's mom couldn't help but chuckle at the overly excited kid. She brought him to stand next to a very grumpy-looking Jungkook—who was even grumpier now that the kid was stealing his mom's attention.
"Jungkookie, don't be like that. Look how happy he is to be with you. Let's just take one picture with him, okay? He's cute."
Jin smiled brightly, trying to hold Jungkook's hand with his drool-filled little fingers, while Jungkook continuously tried to avoid him.
"Seokjin!"
Seokjin's mom suddenly called out when she noticed him with strangers.
"Yah! How many times have I told you not to run, huh?! Sorry—was he troubling you?"
"Minyoung?!" Jungkook's mother said suddenly, eyes wide.
"Jeoyon!! Oh my God, how many years has it been?"
The two women hugged each other tightly.
"Yah, you live here?"
"Yes! Block 2."
"You're kidding?! Me too! How come I've never seen you before?"
"Oh, we just moved in."
"Waaah, I can't believe we're neighbors! I haven't heard from you since we left college."
"I know, right? We have so much to catch up on."
"You don't say! Oh, by the way, this is Seokjin—my son. He's a bundle of energy, as you've seen." Mrs. Kim picked up Seokjin and ruffled his hair.
"He's a sweetheart," Mrs. Jungkook said warmly. "And this is Jungkook—this one's mine." She picked him up too.
"Hi, Jungkookie. This is Jin. He's your age too. Jinnie, say hi."
Jin had already started waving his hand excitedly in front of his face, clapping happily, his new teeth sparkling.
"Say hi, Kookie."
But Jungkook only turned his head and buried his face into his mom's shoulder, surprising everyone.
"He must be tired," Jungkook's mom said, rubbing his back.
"Alright then, let's head back."
It had always been like that with Jin and Jungkook.
Even as they grew up, nothing changed.
Jin just liked being with Jungkook.
Jungkook just found Jin annoying.
