"This Job is stupid, i hate everything, why can't I just go to school like a normal kid" I grumbled quietly as I cleaned the counters quickly

"Umm excuse me" someone said

"Hi, welcome to starbucks. How may I help you" I said in a fake happy voice with a fake smile on my face

The boy chuckled

"Are you okay?" He asked

"Just dandy" i replied, the smile etched onto my face

He laughed again

"Could I get a blueberry muffin please?" He asked

"Of course" I smiled putting it onto the screen

"You really love this job don't you" He asked with a smirk

I took a breath

"How could you tell" I said with a sarcastic laugh

He laughed too

"Could I also get a coffee, whichever you recommended" he shrugged

I nodded

"Name?"

"Ruel" He said

I paused with my pen on the cup

"Umm, how do you spell that?" I asked

"R-U-E-L" he chuckled

"Thanks" I muttered and got to making his coffee

I made him a doubleshot iced coffee, but my way. He waited patiently for me to finish the coffee and get his muffin.

"One blueberry muffin" I said then toned my voice down to a whisper, "and my own special, bigger version of the doubleshot iced coffee"

I winked and shushed him. He laughed and thanked me before paying and going to sit down. I returned to my place at the cashier and took a quick look at my phone before anyone else came in.

"Well hey there sweetheart" a voice said, "you're looking fine today"

I looked up and rolled my eyes. Kimberly's boyfriend, of course.

"I'm not interested" i snapped, "what would you like?"

"Relax" he chuckled, "I was telling you you're hot and I'd definitely tap that"

"If you want" he whispered

I scoffed and pulled him over the counter by his T-shirt

"Are you quite finished?" I asked

Pretty much the whole shop was watching the scene before them

"Damn you're feisty baby girl" he said in a strangled voice, "I like that"

I muttered profanities under my breath and slammed his head down on the counter. I leaned down to his ear as he groaned in pain

"I said, are you quite finished" I growled

"Isla!" My boss, and friend, exclaimed, "Let him go!"

"But did you not-" I started

"Let him go" she said firmly

I groaned and let the guy up

"Happy now" I said smiling sarcastically at her

"Very, now you can go home and cool off" she ordered

"But my shift doesn't finish for another 2 hours" I protested

"Well today it does" she said, "go home"

I groaned and threw off my apron before grabbing my phone and stalking out of the shop.

"Fucking asshole" I muttered as I walked home

My house wasn't that far and I got there in the next 10 minutes

"Honey is that you" my mum called from somewhere in the house

"Unfortunately" I called back walking into the kitchen

"Why are you back early?" She asked walking into the kitchen

"I got hit on" I grumbled grabbing an apple, "slammed his head into the counter"

"Oh Isla" my mum sighed, "I thought you were getting better with controlling yourself"

"I am" I huffed, "I'd already had a bad day and was tired of holding back"

"You still have your job?" She asked

I nodded before leaving

"I've got to do maths homework right about now so I'll see you at dinner" I said

"I'm making lasagna" she said before I walked out

I headed up to my room and opened my laptop. Being homeschooled was cool, I was never a people person so I didn't mind not seeing people often. It's not like I didn't have friends, I had a few but not many people could deal with me.

It had been about 2 hours when my mum called me for dinner. I bounded down the stairs and sat at the table. My mum's lasagne was heavenly and no one could top it.

...

The next morning, I did all my classes. I had a Skype teacher for every subject I did and it wasn't that bad. I was smart and I knew that because they all said the same thing. I was finished by 12 and got ready to head to Starbucks for my 1-6 shift.

"Hey Sash" I said as I walked in

"We in a better mood today, I don't need another customers face on the counter" she said

I rolled my eyes

"That was not my fault, he was being disrespectful and I'd already used the counting method over 10 times" I huffed throwing my apron on

"Just try and behave yourself" she sighed disappearing off to do her manager stuff

Sasha was literally 6 years older than me but she was about the closest friend I had. I took my place behind the cashier and stood on my phone until the bell on the door rang.

"This is gonna be a long day" I muttered as I made my first coffee of the day

Literally at the same time as yesterday Ruel walked in.

"Oh hey" he smiled, "fancy seeing you here"

"I mean it's not like I work here" I chuckled sarcastically

"After yesterday I'm surprised you still have a job" he laughed

"So am I to be honest but here we are" I smiled, "what would you like today?"

"The same as yesterday please" he said, "that iced coffee was fucking amazing"

"I should literally be a coffee concocter" I chuckled

"Maybe you should, start your own business, get out of here" he laughed

"I might do just that" I said sliding him the coffee and the muffin

"Thanks" he smiled and handed me $4

"No problem" I smiled back

I watched him go sit at the table he sat at yesterday and start writing in a notebook.

When my shift was over Ruel was still sitting there scribbling and humming to himself. He came in at 4 and it was now 6. I chuckled before clocking out and walking home to do my homework.
