Jackson

I heard prom night music blaring from Kayt's room as I pulled up to the house. In New York, I wouldn't be caught dead in a tuxedo, much less going to prom, but it was Kayt's dream for us to dance together and I wasn't going to let her down. I looked in my rearview mirror before getting out of the car. I had gotten the stitches out from my forehead a few days ago, so there was a nice fresh scar there.

I knocked on the door and smiled when Melissa answered. I hadn't seen her in a long time, but then again I had been pretty focused on Kayt, not her relationship with Levi. I smiled and said hello before slipping in the house. Levi was there and he smiled. "Jackson!" he said and smiled at me. "Long time no see!"

"Hey man," I laughed and rubbed my high eyes. I watched as Alex walked down the stairs. He looked nice in his clothes and he smiled at me. I knew he was still seeing Jasper. I caught him many times sneaking out of Jasper's back door in the middle of the night. How he stayed with Jacob, I didn't know, but then again I didn't really care. "Looking good Alex," I said.

"Thanks," he said and hugged me tightly. "You are going to absolutely love Kayt," he said and smiled. "She looks absolutely stunning."

"That she does," Jacob said as he slipped an arm around Alex's waist. "Hello Jackson."

"Hi," I said sharply. "You look nice."

Jacob mumbled what sounded like a thank you and I heard a door open upstairs. I smiled when she walked down.

A beautiful, purple dress wrapped around her, her beautiful pale skin shimmering against the dress. Her black hair was curled, and pinned back and she smiled as she started down the stairs. It took all the power in me not to pull her close and kiss her then.

She hurried over to me and kissed me gently, raising on her tip-toes despite wearing tall heels. "You look great Jackson," she said.

"What are you talking about?" I whispered and kissed her gently. "You look amazing Kayt." I looked over the single strap dress and the intricate stitching along the seams. "Absolutely stunning."

"Thanks baby," she said. "Are you ready to have fun tonight?"

"I've never been to one of these formals before. I'm not good at dancing."

"I'm sure you'll do fine. Let's go." She ran out to the car and I smiled as I slipped in the front seat.

"I'm glad you wore purple baby," I said and grabbed the little box I had hidden. I handed it to her. "I'm not good with these emotional things, but I thought of you when I saw this."

She opened the box and smiled. "Oh baby, it's beautiful. I love it." She pulled the necklace out and slipped it over her neck, the purple gemstone nestling against her chest. "I love you so much Jacky."

"I love you too Kayt. I love you so much."

I drove to the high school and we walked into the gymnasium. I wrapped my arm around her and smiled when Alex ran up to the DJ. I knew he had some sort of plan. The night went by, dancing, eating, kissing and laughing. More fun than I had ever figured.

The last song of the night began playing, a slow beautiful song for us. I pulled her up tightly to me and sang quietly in her ear. "This is the song you sang me when you thought you had lost me," I said quietly.

"I know," she said and kissed my cheek. I smiled when she started singing with me. The fact she was singing with me made me so happy. I grabbed her hand as we left and drove her home. She pulled me into the house with her.
