16. Crushes

"I mean he apologized" I reply

"He's trying to do better" Billie reasons

"Yeah but last time he apologized he fucked up, then he fucked up, again and again, it's recurring, how do you know this won't happen again," he says

"Because I feel like this time is different," I say

"Avery I don't want you to get hurt" he replies

"I'm going to be fine Jake" I reply

"I really think that he is trying," Billie says

"Me too"

"He better, otherwise I will actually kick his ass for being drunk" he replies and I smile, we had to restrain Jake when I told him that he was drinking around me and the girls and what he said, Jake become very protective over Billie, Ally and I.

"Anyways what are you going to do about what he said" Billie replies changing the subject

"I am not sure" I reply

"Do you still like him?" Billie asks and Jakes attention gets captured and they both stare at me and my head falls my hair covering my crystal blue eyes

"Yes" I whisper, "I think"

"Thanks again Bil," I say hugging her and she whispers good luck before walking down the pathway Jackson turning around to wave and Jamie chasing after them having just kissed Lola on the nose again.

I shut the door, and coo at Lola, I place her down in her rock and play and she closes her eyes, it's almost her bedtime anyway. I then see Ava who is already asleep on the couch and Saskia who is sitting upright, bloodshot eyes, they are so ready for bed.

"Grayson could you help," I say and Grayson whips around and stops changing the channels on the TV and he helps me moving the girls when they are moved, we make our way back downstairs and sit on the clutch, silence upholds us again before I break the tension

"Maybe we should talk?" I say and he turns the tv off

"Yeah," he says "I just, I'm not sure what I said to you when I was drunk, but when you came home from that date I felt so jealous, and I-" he says

"Jealous," I say and raise my eyebrows

"Avery" he replies 'warning me'

"I know" I reply "But Grayson there is only so many times you can let me down, you were heavily intoxicated in front of our children, I had to call Louis," I say

"I just admitted I was jealous and all you can think of is Louis?" he jokes and I smile

"It won't happen again, but I just wanted to say-" he pauses and looks at me

"What?" I ask and he leans in and kisses me, capturing our lips in a short but sweet kiss, he pulls back

"Wow," I say

"I like you" he admits "I like you so much and I don't want you to go out with anyone else but me," he says and I smile

"I think I like you too," I say and the feelings I have been holding in crash, the crush that I have been nursing since the second this project started

"And I am sorry and willing to do anything to make it up to you," he says

"Maybe take me to lunch"

"Are you asking me on a date Avie?" he asks and touches my hair

"Maybe I am," I say

"Well I will have to think about it," he says and I frown

"Just kidding, how about lunch tomorrow"

"That sounds good, but you do know that we have 3 kids right"

"They can come?" he says and I chuckle

"So much for a date" I reply

"I'll think of something else then," he says

"No it's fine" I reply and he kisses me on the cheek, and I touch my cheek feeling the memory of where his lips once rested against me, I end up heading to be shortly after, feeling somewhat content.

"I can't believe that," Billie says

"I know me either" I reply

"I'm not sure Aves, I don't know if he is being..." Jake trails off

"Jeez, you're not being a Debbie Downer," I say

"I'm just saying the truth, I know guys like Grayson, they say this they say that, but they ever change"

"How would you know that" I reply and I feel the sense that I need to protect him

"Because I do, how many times had he gotten drunk or left you," he says and I don't answer him

"Relax Jake Avery knows what she is doing right Aves," she says and I nod.

But I still can't help but think maybe Jake has a point,

God, I'm such a mess.
