Chapter 12: Day One Conflict

I DIDN'T GET ENOUGH SLEEP. I slept very late. It was already afternoon when I woke up. I was contemplating the life decisions I've made so far. I ran away, refusing to marry the High Lord's son but here I am, agreeing to marry a Duke.

But he was desperate. He seems to talk lightly about it but he was desperate. He wouldn't be asking me to marry him if he wasn't. After all, he took me to his home, gave me a job, saved my life and now, offering a lifetime protection against Emerich Sardon. A marriage is all he asks.

Kung tutuusin, he has given too much already. And I think it won't hurt if I help him now. It'll be an act anyway. I'll just hope I still have my head intact after this.

A knock on my door pulled me back to reality. A handmaiden came in. 

"Lady Lily your presence is requested in the infirmary." 

Kumunot ang noo ko. "What happened? Are they wounded again? The twins? Davis Black? Exene?" 

Mahinahon siyang umiling. 

"A village was attacked by bandits."

"Ano!?" 

Hindi na ako nag abala pang magpalit ng damit. I ran as fast as I could papunta sa infirmary. Half the village? 

Exene was treating a wounded woman nang makarating ako. The twins were doing the same too. I can't find Davis Black. I hastily tied my hair up hanggang sa makarating ako kay Exene who was too busy treating the wounded to notice me approaching. 

"Why didn't you wake me up sooner? And you should rest. I'll take care of them now. The twins are here, anyway. They can help me." 

"I am a doctor too. You can't ask me to ignore them when I know I can help." 

I sighed. "Tell me if your wounds hurt. I'll put something to it." I said at agad pumunta sa isang batang lalake. He was sitting silently on the corner, unnoticed. I roamed my eyes around the room. About twenty people are here including the children. 

"A whole village is attacked. Those people who got graver wounds are in the nearby hospital. The ones with minor injuries are here. After we're done here, we're going to the hospital." 

Napatingin ako sa kanya na abala pa rin sa pag aasikaso sa isang matandang babae. 

"Lily, we need help here." Napalingon ako sa kambal na inaasikaso ang isang dalaga. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. Are they treating her or flirting with her? The woman was blushing furiously. 

"You can help other patients now, St. Delphis." I greeted dahilan para mapalingon silang dalawa sa'kin.

"Where is Davis Black, anyway?"

Levi shrugged. "He's been silent ever since he came back from his trip."

"He's always been silent. But now, it's...different." Luca added, putting his hands on his pockets.

I remembered our last encounter. It was indeed strange. He called me Lily for the first time since we met.

"Where did he go last?"

"To hunt Apollo's hands. Something must have happened." Luca said at agad naglakad papunta sa isang pasyente. The way he said it tells me that it's something serious and has a great effect on Davis Black.

"He'll come around." Levi patted my shoulder bago siya naglakad palayo papunta sa isa pang pasyente.

Somehow, I feel worried about him.

It was already dark by the time we got home. Right after we finished the patients in the house, we immediately went to the hospital to help the others. There were about 50 wounded villagers. Thankfully, hindi naman masyadong malala ang natamo nilang mga sugat.
