Daily 09-A Journey (YongNai)-Chapter 4

Eventually they came to an ice-cream stall.

"Auntie, please give me two coconut shaved ice with cream please," Nai ordered and was about to pay when Yong stopped him.

"It's ok P, you have been paying for snacks the entire afternoon now. I can get this," Nai smiled. Yong hesitantly took back his money and observed as Nai chatted with the ice-cream lady. Nai can talk to anyone easily if he wanted to. Yong was even impressed when the lady gave them extra toppings for free. Nai passed one to Yong and naturally took Yong's hand to guide him away.

On purpose or not, Yong didn't mind. In fact, he enjoyed the feel of the smaller hand holding his wrist. Yong allowed Nai to guide them into the nearby park empty of people. It's almost evening. They have been walking for several hours. Nai took them to the nearest bench and sat down. Only then he let go of Yong's wrist and signaled for him to do the same while licking his ice-cream.

"So P, how are you enjoying Nai's special food tour in Chiang Mai?" Nai asked in a teasing tone.

Yong pretended to think, "Ummm...it was ok na, you do know your way around food around here don't you?"

"Oh course P, I grew up here so naturally I would know every nook and corner here. Food is how our family bond. That's why you see my entire family today," Nai said proudly, now biting on the ice-cream cone.

"Yeah, your dad's a great cook, today's lunch was by far my favorite meal," Yong complimented and looked at Nai who looked back. Time seemed to pause for for the both of them as they just stared at each other. It was Nai who looked away shyly first.

"Glad you liked it P," Nai said, continuing munching his cone.

"So umm...what are you going to do after this internship?" Yong asked, in attempt to change the topic.

"Well, we have our finals exams coming and the presentation of the last part of our thesis. Then after that, graduation and into the real world," Nai answered as he swallowed his last bite.

"Do you have any plans then to join our company?" Yong asked after a moment.

"I'm not sure P. I mean, I would love to, but the decision to do that would depend on a few factors...," Nai said slowly. Yong felt his heart beat quickened.

"Depending on?"

"Well...there's my results for one, your company needs awesome good grades to qualify for a beginner position....two, I guess it's the place to stay. I would need to find a location which I can afford to travel to and fro because I don't want to depend on my parents' allowances," Nai explained.

Yong thought Nai's grades wouldn't be a problem and as for a place to stay, there is an empty room in his apartment so...

"And...third, it will depend on..." the suspense was killing Yong.

"You, P'Yong," this is it, Yong thought.

"Depend on me?" Yong asked, trying to sound as natural as he could.

"P'Yong...are you open to talk about us now?" Nai asked, his brown eyes looking straight into Yong's. Yong thought Nai was so adorable right now. Nai didn't realize there was a spot of cream left on the corner of Nai's mouth. Yong used his thumb to brush it away, which startled Nai a little. Yong nodded to signal Nai to continue.

"I think, I should just go straight to the point..." Nai stopped. He looked away.

"This few months with you...I think I have developed feelings for you P. Not the P and Nong kind but, something slightly more. It could be my imagination but I thought P'Yong could perhaps feel the same way I feel...I could be wrong though so...P, if I am mistaken, then, I'm sorry," Nai finished. Yong felt a shiver down his spine.

"That means, your feelings for me...are romantic?" Yong can't help but asked and he was most delighted to see a blush formed on Nai's face who shyly nodded. Nai stole a glance at him before looking away.

"But P...I just want you to understand, no matter what your answer is, I would like us to remain friends. I am, really okay if you don't see me that way," Nai said, his voice sounded so small.

Yong patted his head gently,"Nai, I am glad that you feel loved from the way I treated you but I want to make sure if you are sure about us not being only a P and Nong?"

"P, I am from a big family so I can tell the difference. It's just, with you, P'Yong, I felt especially happy when you do things for me and bought things for and spend time teaching me so many things," Nai explained, bringing his big doe eyes up to see Yong again. Yong sighed with a smile.

"Ok, then Nai, how do you want us to proceed with this then?" Nai beamed at the question.

"Can we be boyfriends P?" Yong smiled back and pretended to consider.

"Ok, but so you know, even we are boyfriends, I will continue to impose my strictness when it comes to your school work and work progress. Is that ok with you?" Nai pouted a little.

"Wow, you are stricter than my mom but it's a deal. I like your style anyway," Nai replied cheekily and went near Yong's face. Yong tapped on the button nose.

Nai bit his lips a little, "So P, can I please kiss you?" Yong chuckled and looked around.

"Yes, if you are ready to," Yong gave his permission.

With that both of them closed their distance with their first kiss which tasted of coconut and cream. It was brief but that was alright. They have all the time in the world.

Yong took Nai's hands in his and gave them a squeeze.

"P...Nai rak P na," Nai said. Yong felt himself melting when Nai adorably referred himself with his name.

"P rak Nai too. I wish that we will spend a lot of time together after this na," Yong said as he pull Nai into a hug.

Nai hugged back tighter, a little proof for Yong to know Nai was committed to the both of them.
