IN THE END, GINNY GOT SENT UP FOR BED BECAUSE THE REST OF THE WEASLEY BROTHERS PUT UP QUITE THE FIGHT TO CONVINCE MRS. WEASLEY TO LET THEM STAY. Even knowing Effie would tell her everything, Ginny didn't go up without quite the noise as she stomped up the stairs.
Sirius spoke on a much calmer note, "Okay, Harry. . . what do you want to know?"
"Where's Voldemort? What's he doing? I've been trying to watch the Muggle news," Potter said, ignoring the renewed shudders and winces at the name, "and there hasn't been anything that looks like him yet, no funny deaths or anything—"
"That's because there haven't been any suspicious deaths yet," Sirius said, "not as far as we know, anyway. . . And we know quite a lot. The most we have is Nott Sr. trying to poison Effie."
"Which rounded on him, so that's out of the question," Effie cuts in.
"More than he thinks we do anyway," Remus added, looking at Effie.
"How come he's stopped killing people?"
"Because he doesn't want to draw attention to himself at the moment," Sirius answered. "It would be dangerous for him. His comeback didn't come off quite the way he wanted it to, you see. He messed it up."
"Or rather, you messed it up," Eleazar says with a small smirk.
Potter, intimidated by him, asked with a perplexed expression. "How?"
Effie rolled her eyes, "You aren't really the thickest tool in the shed, are you?" At Potter's offended look, she elaborates. "Why do you think I swore to keep my silence for him? You weren't supposed to survive! Nobody apart from his Death Eaters was supposed to know he'd come back. I was supposed to be replacement for my mum. But you survived to bear witness."
"And the very last person he wanted alerted to his return the moment he got back was Dumbledore," Remus added. "And you made sure Dumbledore knew at once."
"How has that helped?"
"Are you kidding?" Bill asked incredulously. "Dumbledore was the only one You-Know-Who was ever scared of!"
"Thanks to both of you, Dumbledore was able to recall the Order of the Phoenix about an hour after Voldemort returned," Sirius told them.
