How To Avoid Being Captured

Start from the beginning

“You’re insane!” I shrieked at him.

“Shut up,” He hissed. “It was either him or us. Keep moving, c’mon.”

We ran more down the hallway and I felt numb inside. I just witnessed three murders. He’s done it before. He’s killed people before and he’s gotten away with it. It suddenly hit me that the vampire I chose to be my subject was a bad choice. He was dangerous and lethal. I was in for a hell of a ride.

“Don’t shoot the next people we come across, alright?” I told him as we continued running down different hallways. “We need their suits.”

It hit him what I was planning on doing. He looked back at me and smirked. “Maybe you’re not as stupid as I thought you were.” Before I could send a retort his way, four more people in hazmat suits came charging at us. Warren smirked and tossed the gun my way. “Hold this.”

I grabbed it before it could hit the floor. Warren went at them like they were nothing. He hooked a punch to the first one, but at the same time, he kicked the second one. The first one fell to the floor and he moved to the second one. He tried to aim a punch at Warren, but it was an easy dodge for him, because he laughed.

The laugh was gone, replaced with a cold look. He was filled with anger and rage as he continued plowing through the four of them with easy. What was a challenge for him? Ten? Fifty? A hundred?

He was a killer. A cold hearted killer that didn’t bat an eyelash at what he did. It’s probably what he’s been doing for his entire life. Killed, murdered, slaughtered. Under whose command? His own? Did he do this for fun? I sure hope not. There had to be a reason he killed. There has got to be something that happened in his history that he was like this.

“Take your pick, kid,” He said when he snapped the last guy’s neck. He wasn’t even breathing heavily. When he saw my eyes, he faltered, too. Only for a second, before it was replaced with an angry glint. “I’m not waiting for you, now let’s go!”

It snapped me out of my frozen spot. I tugged off the helmet of one of the dead workers and placed it on my own. I felt completely guilty, but I had to. I tugged the suit off the guy and place it on my body. It felt weird, and it was hot, but it was my ticket out of here.

When I looked over to Warren, he was laughing. “That thing doesn’t fit you at all,” He said.

I looked down and saw it was very baggy on me. I was a short person, sue me. “Shut up.”

We found an elevator and stepped inside. I hit the ground level and we were moving up. The doors opened and we stepped outside. “Are we going through the front door?” Warren asked me.

I nodded. “Yeah, I guess. Every where else needs passes to get through, and I don’t have mine.”

I guided him through the hallways until you could see the front opening of the labs. But I stopped once I heard Dr. Helmich’s voice echo through the wide, empty room. Warren stopped too. I needed to hear what he was saying.

“We need that vampire alive,” He said to someone. “We’ll test his human DNA first. We’ll change him back and we’ll test his vampire DNA. We’ll compare it and modify it. We could have machines built out of vampires. They’re stronger, Alexa said, and faster. We could use them. Train them to fight, to kill.”

“What about Alexa, sir? What do you want us to do when we find her?”

“Bring her to me. If she doesn’t want to cooperate, we’ll kill her,” He said flatly. “We’ll be able to cover it up, somehow. I kept the formulas in her office. I know there’s more of Formula Human in her office. I’ve never seen Formula Vampire before, but if we reverse Formula Human, it shouldn’t be that hard to make.”

I looked to Warren in horror. He made a motion for me to calm down and not freak out and panic like I truly wanted to do. My boss wanted to kill me. He didn’t care that I made a world-changing formula. He wanted to use it to make killing machines out of vampires. Out of the formula that I created. I brought that into the world for good, not for bad.

Warren jolted his head and mouthed, “Follow my lead.”

I nodded and forced myself to stand upright. I followed Warren out to where my boss and one of the other bosses of another level stood. Dr. Helmich turned his attention to us. “Where are you two going?”

It was hard to see into the hazmat suits, thank god. Before I could say anything, Warren took the lead. He spoke out in a heavy, sexy accent I’ve never heard him use before. “We’re going outside to check around, sir.”

Dr. Helmich narrowed his eyes to the both of us and for a second, I thought he knew who we were. “Very well.”

We were dismissed and we strolled very slowly outside until he couldn’t see us anymore. That’s when we took off in a run. We must’ve been a sight to see; two giant marshmallows running down a parking lot. We tossed our helmets to the floor and entered the car.

I shot out of that parking lot so fast I was seeing stars. I was breathing heavily and I was flooring it. “What the hell was that!?” I screamed at the top of my lungs.

Warren winced. “I don’t know, you tell me! You fucking worked there!”

“I didn’t think any of that was going to happen!” I yelled. “He wasn’t suppose to go and experiment on you! And he was most certainly not suppose to try and kill me! None of that was suppose to happen! I don’t know what’s going on! And you!” I threw a look his way. “Where the hell did you get that accent!?”

He didn’t know what to do with my outburst. He blinked and then answered my question. “It was my old accent, I lost it when I came here.”

“Where the hell are you from!?”

        “Transylvania.”

        I gaped at him. “Transylvania?”

He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. “Can you just get us somewhere safe?”

I slammed my mouth shut and gave my attention to the road. That was one thing I couldn’t screw up. Hopefully.
