"Dalia, if you don't get you-" mama screamed from down the hall screaming for me to wear something suitable. It was Sunday morning and my mama always rushed to get to church on time. "Alright mama, damn!" I screamed back. But that last part wasn't supposed to come out. "What did you just say to me? Don't make me come in there, Dalia!" She yelled. I replied back saying "Nothing!" Because no one ever wanted to get whooped with the belt.

Mama didn't care how old any of her children were. Her eldest was twenty-one and you better believe she even whooped him. She raised seven children and I was the middle child. My family wasn't like any perfect family you had seen on tv and on movies. We didn't have some huge fancy home, a garage with three cars and a pool out back that had children who only got A's in every class.

No, We came straight from Vinyl Crate a small town where my grandmother raised her twelve children, yeah our family is huge. Anyways today was Sunday and grandmother had made plans for our friends, family and church members to come to our home and bring some food so we all could have some fun. I wasn't too excited for the event, either everyone was too old for me to hang out with or everyone was too young and I couldn't play hide and go seek with probably some snot-nosed six year old.

Once I was done putting on my yellow sunflower dress, and picking out my afro with a sunflower headband I was done. I grabbed my small little black leather purse and put my lipgloss, phone, and phone charger into the bag and closed it shut.

I ran down the hall before mama could scream for me again, "I'm here mama!" I announced while walking into our bright beautiful kitchen where grandma was sitting at with her lovely light lime dress on and her huge hat. "You sure do look beautiful Dalia..." She said me while rubbing her heavy scented lotion on her hands, it was a strong aroma of strawberry candy.

"Thank you, and so do you, grandma," I said while hugging her. My little brothers and sisters had run out of their rooms as well. Three of my siblings had lived with us but for the other three they were old enough to start a life of their owns, mama was fine about it. Well, she was fine with everyone else leaving except for Daquan whose seventeen. He really wasn't one of the brightest bulbs in our family but we still love him.

Deshawn, Tasia, and Kai were all dressed formally while coming into the kitchen. "I want to get this over with already..." Deshawn said in my ear as Tasia and Kai both sat down in the dining room kitchen. There wasn't much to say, so I just nod and he brings himself down to a seat as well.
