"The woman that you believe to be your mother is not your mother."

Ember was now wondering if Darkett was just an idiot who was trying to trick her. He probably was.

"And you know this how?" Ember asked rudely. Darkett was just wasting her time.

Darkett released Ember's wrist and Ember almost ran but decided that she should see what this mysterious guy had to say.

"I just do."

Ember gave a humorless laugh. "You're just wasting my time. If you want to talk, start by giving me answers!" Ember began to walk away swiftly down the hallway but stopped when Darkett yelled out at her.

"Wait!" Darkett cleared his throat. "I'll give you answers if you come with me."

"I don't even know who you are."

That was when the pounding started.

"Crap! That's them isn't it? I have to go!" Ember hissed. Darkett shook his head.

"NO! Just come with me, Ember."

"In your dreams, Weird Boy."

Darkett startled Ember by sprinting to her and wrapping his arms around her waist. He began to run down the hall while Ember screamed at him to put her down. Was there anyone she could trust that wasn't already dead?

The footsteps and voices were getting closer and Ember squirmed in Darkett's arms, trying to escape.

Then, Ember fell to the ground. Darkett had dropped her for some reason. Ember looked behind her and saw a boy rushing at her with longish blonde hair.

"Come on!" He yelled at her. Ember looked at him as if to say 'Me?' "Yes, you! Get up!" He narrowed his eyes at her and as he ran past, he grabbed ahold of her arm and pulled her to her feet.

They ran together until the boy abruptly stopped in front of Ember. Ember barely had time to stop herself from crashing into him.

"In here!" He whisper-yelled at her. He was clambering into a small, dark hole in the wall. It was something you wouldn't see unless you already knew it was there. Ember felt that she had no choice but to follow the boy, so she stumbled through the hole and fell with a thud on wet grass.

She quickly got back on her feet and brushed her pants off.

The moon was the only source of light and Ember caught herself gazing up at the sky. It would be so nice to be up there with the stars but Ember's feet were firmly planted on the ground for now.

"Hey, are you coming or not?" A voice pulled Ember away from her thoughts.

It was just the boy who had saved her. Ember supposed she ought to be more grateful but it would take more than saving her to earn her trust after the previous events that had happened.

"Huh?" Ember asked stupidly. The boy rolled his eyes.

"Did you seriously not hear a word I just said?"

"Well...I...uh-" Ember started.

"Jeez! You can come with me if you want...although inviting you to my home is probably against my better judgement." The boy interrupted.

"Well...I...don't thin-" Ember tried again.

"Look, it's either you come with me to my home or you can stay here and get captured again. I could care less either way but if you're gonna' come with me, you need to hurry it up." The boy interrupted again.

Ember's mind was made up immediately. She was going to go with this annoying boy who kept interrupting her and also who saved her. There wasn't a better option and maybe she could finally get some answers...hopefully. And maybe, just maybe, she could gather her thoughts, form a plan, be safe for a little bit at least, and have time to move on from Ash. Ember felt a tear drip down her face as she thought of him. She hadn't even known she loved him until it was too late.

She finally noticed that the boy was staring at her and he looked worried. Ember wiped her tears quickly.

"I'll go with you."

Vote and comment please!

I am almost to 100 reads! I know that's not very much but it's a landmark and I'll take it. I'm at 99 right now.

Who is this boy that Ember is going with? What will Darkett do next? What does Darkett want with Ember? Will Dune find Ember again? Can Ember trust this boy that she is going with?

Popcorn and Polarbears! :)
