"What can I do for you, Lieutenant?"
My partner did not waste a second. "Sir, we're investigating deviants. I know you left CyberLife years ago but, I was hoping you'd be able to tell us something we don't know..."
Kamski stared at him for a minute, seriousness in his eyes. Subsequently, he cocked his head back. "Deviants... Fascinating, aren't they? Perfect beings with infinite intelligence, and now they have free will..."
He motioned over to the blonde android next to him. "Machines are so superior to us, confrontation was inevitable... Humanity's greatest achievement threatens to be its downfall. Isn't it ironic?"
Kamski shortly smiled until Connor used the chance to speak. "We need to understand how androids become deviants. Do you know anything that could help us?"
The man glanced at me and then again at my partner. "All ideas are viruses that spread like epidemics... Is the desire to be free a contagious disease?"
Hank instantly talked back, "Listen, I didn't come here to talk philosophy. The machines you created may be planning a revolution. Either you can tell us something that'll be helpful, or we will be on our way."
Kamski did not really listen to Hank but rather stared at Connor, making me even more wary. "What about you, Connor? Whose side are you on?"
Before he could get too close to the android next to me, I protectively stood in front of Connor. Amused at my actions, Kamski lightly laughed. "Detective (L/N), if you were not a human, I'd say you would make a wonderful android. Just image having an almost immortal body. Wouldn't that be great?"
I gritted my teeth, trying my best to control myself. "As if you would ever know," I retorted, sounding as sharp as I had intended to. I had to deal with these oh so "wonderful" limbs all day.
This man surely would not get us anywhere. He kept grinning, maing me feel sick.
"Back to my question: Connor, where do you think you are in between of all of this?"
The android gently gripped my shoulder, softly shoving me back. I glanced at him, surprised. "It's not about me, Mr. Kamski. All I want is to solve this case." His voice was firm, just like his piercing gaze.
"Well, that's what you're programmed to say... but you..." To my displeasure, Kamski stepped even closer towards Connor until he was barely a foot away.
"What do you really want?"
For a second, Connor's gaze landed on me, something deep within his eyes. Before I could even react, he started talking, visibly conflicted.
"What I want is not important."
The other man merely stared at him. Over his shoulder, he called, "Chloe?"
The female android approached him, as he stepped away from Connor, making me sigh due to relief.
"I'm sure you're familiar with the Turing test. Mere formality, simple question of algorithms and computing capacity." Kamski grabbed the android's shoulders and held her in front of him, looking at us. He then stepped next to the female, continuing, "What interests me is whether machines are capable of empathy. I call it 'the Kamski test', it's very simple, you'll see..."
He intensely gazed at the female android. "Magnificent, isn't it? One of the first intelligent models developed by CyberLife."
Using his hand, he carrassed her cheek, making me feel sick once again. "Young and beautiful forever. A flower that will never wither..."
Turning to us, he proceeded. "But what is it really? A piece of plastic imitating a human? Or a living being... With a soul..."
The man let his back face us again, as he opened a drawer and pulling something out, causing me to feel anxious. He then turned around, lifting his hands, a gun in one of them. I blinked a few times as I noticed Connor slightly stepping in front of me. Kamski once again grinned, approaching him and softly pushing Chloe onto the floor.
