"God damn fuckin' pigeons!" Hank cursed, standing somewhere close to us. Stumbling back, I noticed the deviant running out of the door and Connor stopping for a second.
"What are you waiting for?! Chase it!" Hank yelled, causing the detective android to rapidly take off. I coughed due to the dust that was lifted up by the birds and covered my mouth with one hand.
"I'll follow him." I suggested but Hank shook his head.
"You'll never catch up with him (Y/N)."
I blankly stared at him. "Well, do you want to just stand around?" The lieutenant rolled his eyes, pointing outside a window.
"They'll definitely pass those rooftops. Let's look for a shortcut."
Without letting me even protest, the grey haired man jogged out of the apartment. I huffed and followed him. His idea did make sense after all.
. . .
We had run towards where we had last seen Connor and the deviant, me slowing down a little to stay at Hank's side.
"Ah, look over there!" I exclaimed, pointing to a moving train.
First the deviant jumped onto it, then Connor followed without hesitation.
"Holy shit..." Hank mumbled. I agreed on that. Androids were crazy indeed.
"Let's move to that house." I nodded towards another rooftop, earning an approving gaze from Hank. We continued running across the buildings, passing a greenhouse and some, assumingly, corn fields.
As if fate manipulated us all, the deviant came running exactly into Hank's and my direction. We stood at the edge of the roof, as the grey-haired man called out, "Stop right there!"
Instead of fleeing from us, the unkown android tackled Hank, hence I leaped towards the machine, fiercely grabbing his shoulders. My right arm failed to bring up enough strength but fortunately, I had the other one as well. With all my power, I pushed the android away, trying to kick his legs off the floor at the same time. He was overwhelmed by my force, now sent back, yet in that explicit moment, Hank was shoved over the edge of the roof by our fight.
I widened my eyes in shock and held my breath. As fast as possible, I grabbed the lieutenants arm, keeping a firm grip on it.
"Ugh, hold on Hank!" I hissed through my teeth. Attempting to haul him up with mainly my left arm. I grunted, knowing that my strength alone was not enough. From behind me, I heard footsteps, now fearing that the devaint approached us. Nonetheless, I was unable to turn around, since I was still gripping Hank's arms.
When I noticed Connor kneeling down out of the corner of my eyeshot, a sigh of relief escaped my mouth. With one hand, he took a hold of Hanks left arm and with the other one, my partner supported me, gently gripping my waist. Heat welled up inside me, as we pulled Hank back onto the roof. Perhaps it was the exhaustion.
Yeah sure, I ironically thought to myself.
"Shit! Oh SHIT! We had it! Fuck!" Hank cursed, causing me to gawk at him. That was what he was worried about? He almost lost his damn life!
"It's my fault, I should have been faster." Connor said, somehow seeming full of guilt. Hank and I looked at each other, then the grey-haired man addressed the android.
"You'd have caught it if it weren't for me... That's alright. We know what it looks like. We'll find it..."
I also sighed, chiming in, "Don't say that Hank. It was partly my mistake to accidentily bump into you during my fight with the deviant. Besides, Connor saved your life. I surely wouldn't have been able to do it alone."
I reassuringly smiled at my partners, just now noticing how Connor's LED had been shining in a bright yellow this whole time.
That was, when another thought entered my mind. I had cared less about serving justice to the criminal but rather focused on saving Hank's life. My eyes lingered on the ground beneath us, as I was lost in thought. I knew that I had made my choice on the inside. I had chosen my emotions over my sense for justice and therefore my mission. Would CyberLife find out about this? Fear of being locked away welled up in my chest, as I felt nausea.
"Let's go." Hank stood up and walked away.
Suddenly, a hand entered my vision. Connor stood in front of me, offering to haul me up. Looking at his face, I imaged to see worry in the depths of his hazel brown eyes. Once again, something moved deep within me. I felt warmth emerging from his skin, feeling comfortable holding the android's hand. Slightly blushing, I stared at our intertwined fingers. After I was standing on both my feet again, he let go and a cold breeze passed me. I couldn't possibly give in to my sentiments that much, could I? No, after all, that affection had costed me in the past.
Silently, I trailed behind my two partners, conflicted once again.
