We wandered through several rooms, searching for any clues to discern that the suspect was a deviant. I kneeled down to check the refrigirator, finding nothing but dust inside. Since he did not have any food here, I suspected it was an android indeed.
I heard Hank ask, "Found something?", hence I looked up and noticed Connor holding some kind of book.
"I don't know... It looks like a notebook but it's...indecipherable."
I put a hand underneath my chin, doubts rising inside of me. If even Connor was unable to read the entries, it surely must be some kind of deviant code. That was the only thing he was not programmed for.
I looked to the side, spotting a jacket on another dresser.
"R.T.... I guess these could be initials." I told Hank, who stood right next to me.
He scoffed and commented, "He put his initials on his jacket? That's something your mom does when you're in first grade..."
I was confused as well, why a deviant would label his clothes.
"Deviants have a habit of putting their names on things. It seems important to them." Connor's explanation seemed logical. If those androids wished to feel like humans, they surely wanted the right to possess something as well.
"Birdseed... I can't believe it. This nutjob was actually feeding these fuckers..."
While Hank continued talking in the background, I entered the corridor again, heading for another room. This one appeared to be a bathroom. My gaze immediately landed on the wall, which was covered by hazy scribbles.
"And once again, there is the mysterious rA9. Who the hell is that person?" I mumbled to myself, jumping when I heard Connor behind me.
"It was written 2471 times... You're right, it's the same sign Ortiz's android wrote on the shower wall... Why are they obsessed with this sign?..."
Hank joined us, skeptically eyeing the writing. "Looks like mazes or something..." I agreed with him on that. No sane person would be able to see clear in between this mess.
While Hank returned to the hallway, I noticed something blue in the sink. Curious, I inched closer, gasping upon seeing what was hidden there. "I do know quite a few things about androids but I never knew they were able to remove their LED."
I held it up so Connor could see what I was talking about. He simply nodded and mentioned, "With the help of a sharp object it is, in fact, possible."
I pressed my lips onto each other. If that was the case, practically nothing would distinguish them from humans anymore. Didn't that mean there was a possibility of them living a life like us? I truly hoped that was the case.
Suddenly, Connor softly pushed me aside, causing me to look up. He moved close to the sink, dipping his fingers in whatever was laying in there. Knowing what was about to come, I chuckled. The android put his fingers up to his mouth, licking the substance on his skin.
"Any results?" I sarcastically inquired, keeping my eyes on him. No matter how weird the concept of this "testing" thing was, it also was attractive in some way. Embarrassing to admit but Connor would never know or understand what I meant anyway.
As my partner was about to give me an answer, I held up my hand. "I know that you've learned something, I just wanted to tease you."
I smiled, waving my question off. Spinning around, I returned to the main room. Connor followed me, seemingly lost in thoughts. After some time, he approached an armchair standing next to a closet.
"What is it?" I asked, moving behind him. The android didn't answer, climbed up the furniture and just one second later, he was pushed to the ground by someone descending from a hole in the roof. I gasped, losing my balance and then my sight, since it was covered by too many pigeons.
