"Guess you will stop if I do this then, huh?" Hank's voice appeared from behind me and out of the corner of my eye, I noticed him drawing his own gun.

"Mind your own business, Hank," Reed spat, yet when he turned to look at the grey haired man, he froze, spotting another weapon pointing towards him.

"Fuck, you're not gonna get away with it this time... Fuck!"

He shot an evil look at Connor another time and then finally left the room. A sigh of relief escaped my lips, as I hurried over to the two androids. Before I got the chance to speak to Connor though, he turned and addressed the deviant, who had fallen to the ground during this mess.

"Everything is all right. It's over now. Nobody is gonna hurt you."

Facing Chris, the detective android said, "Please, don't touch it. Let it follow you out of the room and it won't cause any trouble." Defeated, Chris nodded and motioned for the criminal to follow him, which he surprisingly did.

Seizing the opportunity, I stopped Connor with one hand, grasping his shoulder. "Are you all right?"

I stared directly into his hazel brown eyes, that were now focused on my face. "Yes, of course I am."

His objective answer was nothing new and seeing how he could still behave like always, I put a hand over my chest, letting out a breath I didn't know I was holding in.

"I was really worried when detective Reed directed his gun at you. I can't believe he actually did that..."

I felt the fear of losing Connor slowly dissipate, whereas I let go of his arm. Once more, I witnessed his LED flickering a light yellow.

Noticing how close we were, I felt rather embarrassed, hence I recoiled. "You should leave," Hank reminded us while disappearing from the room himself.

I gasped, remembering that I was still tired and should get some sleep before having to come back to the police department later this day. CyberLife had told me to keep accompanying the lieutenant for any deviant cases, whereas I planned to return later on to meet my team once more. I quickly shot another smile at Connor.

"I will see you later today again." Unsure of my feelings, I quickly left before my heart started calling out to me again like it had done when I had been right next to my android partner.

. . .

It was very early in the morning when I arrived at my apartment, tired from investing the case and the interrogation. While my heart still beat fast due to the joy of being able to live somehow free and take up my occupation, my mind span in circles.

Sighing, I unlocked the door and entered the accommodation. CyberLife said that they would pay for it until I received my first paycheck. As long as I did my job correctly, that was. I locked the door behind me and headed down the corridor into my living room, throwing my black bag onto the (F/C) colored armchair. Letting out a small cry of frustration, I stepped into my bedroom to get some clothes for the night. Later on today I needed to arrive back at the police station for the next case.

My mind always went back to the events of today. How I had caught a criminal, felt torn between justice and my emotions and of course, that sensation that had washed over me when I worried for Connor. Strangely, I was unable to say what exactly had driven me back then, causing me to draw my own gun and pointing it at someone without hesitation. Simply the thought of losing the detective android sent a shiver down my spine. I didn't want to be deprived of one of my partners, especially not that early on in the relationship. Sighing, I put on my pjamas and hopped into my bed. Setting an alarm clock, I covered my face with the sheets, taking in their comfortable scent. I did not want to lose anything I somehow treasured anymore. I was unsure how it was possible but Hank and Connor both had partly grown onto me, even after only such a short amount of time.

Shaking off any more notions inside my head, I turned to one side and focused on drifting off into a hopefully deep slumber.

. . .

I arrived at 9:59 am at the police station, glad to have made it on time. A close call though to be honest. Stepping through the main doors, I passed the reception and waved the female android since she looked at me. As if never having been greeted, she blankly stared back at me. Slightly chuckling to myself, I advanced further, looking for someone to tell me where Hank's desk was. I wanted to wait there for him, since he kind of was my superior in this investigation anyway.

I saw the officer from last night, who had taken the deviant to his cell and was about to walk towards him, when I noticed Connor standing a few meters away in the break room talking to... Asshole Reed? No way.

When detective Reed got extremely close to Connor, I saw him pushing the android partly back, yelling, "Hey, bring me a coffee, dipshit! GET A MOVE ON!"

Anger welled up inside me while I ran over and swiftly moved in between both, shoving Reed away before Connor could even answer.

Fueled by fury, I glared up at the other detective. "You can't just push Connor around. He doesn't need to listen to anything you say. So you better back off." My voice turned ino a growl, as I earned a disgusted stare from the person in front of me.

"If it isn't the rookie that thinks she can command everyone around. Yet here you are, accusing me of that shit." The detective hovered above me, using his advantage of height to try an intimidate me. The emphasis stayed on "trying to". He did not scare me one bit.

"At least I have the decency to act like an actual human being. I wonder how you got to deserve that title anyway." I huffed and did not avert my gaze.

"If Hank hadn't got in the way yesterday, I would've fucked you both up. Stay outta my way...'Cause next time... You won't get off so easy." Gavin hissed and returned to his table.

I held my head, already getting a headache from just seeing that man. Blinking a few times, I once more turned to face Connor. "Are you all right? I honestly cannot believe that guy. Why does he think he can make you obey his every word? That's nonesense," I uttered underneath my breath, rolling my eyes.

"Thank you for your assistance detective (L/N) but I do not understand why you voluntarily got caught up in this situation." Connor tilted his head, looking truly adorable. Like a puppy, he curiously examined my face, searching for any signs that offered him an answer. I weakly smiled, signalizing him to distance ourselves from detective Reed, not wanting to be near him anymore.

"I know it will sound absurd to you Connor, however, to me androids are more than machines. You have the right to have a will of your own as well. Just last night I was proven that some of you can be much more humane than certain people."

My eyes shortly wandered over to Gavin Reed one last time. Facing Connor again, his yellow LED caught my gaze. "You know, we are not that different from each other." I faintly smiled at him, sadness welling up inside me.

Before he could ask me anything more, I interrupted my partner and posed a different question instead. "Do you know where Hank's desk is? I think we should wait for him over there."

The android merely nodded and lead me over to the place. The lieutenant's table was as messy as I had imaged it to be. Headphones laying on top of his paper work and a few boxes of donuts were stacked in between the chaos of pages too.

"I already called lieutenant Anderson but he did not reply," Connor informed me, hence I nodded. I assumed we simply had to stay put a little longer.

Fortunately, I heard footsteps the next second and looked up to see Hank heading towards us, an annoyed expression on his face.

"It's good to see you again, Lieutenant" Connor greeted the grey haired man, as I simply chuckled at Hank's reply.

"Uh, Jesus..." Catching his attention, I waved.

"Good morning Hank."

He rolled his eyes but was immediately interrupted by captain Fowler, who apparantly was his superior as I had heard.

"Hank! In my office! Take those two with you!"

The lieutenant groaned and simply walked away, whereas Connor and I followed him.
