Chapter 3 - The Top Secret Coded in Black

We don't know yet what kind of monster the killer or killers are, but we are sure it isn't human.

I stared blankly on the dark horizon before me while my mind drifted off to the far corner of imagination. The case was by far the most ridiculous thing that would ever happen to me.

Hindi ko maitatangging naexcite ako ng ibigay nila ang kaso sa amin. Unang beses ko kasi iyon na hahawak ng isang kasong coded Black.

All cases the organization handled were sorted according to how dangerous the case was and how much time it required. It was sorted in four colors: White, Grey, Brown and Black. White coded cases were the easiest. Three days was the longest timeframe for those cases to be solved. It also needed only one agent to solve it. Grey coded were the cases that required a week or two. Often it involved one or two agents. Sometimes it required a team. The brown coded ones were the cases which remain unresolved for the long period of time. Hindi basta-basta ang mga ito dahil walang time frame na inilalaan sa pag-solve ng ganoong uri ng mga kaso. Minsan dahil sa tagal na ng mga kasong 'yon, kulang-kulang na ang mga ebidensiya kaya't taon pa rin ang inaabot bago tuluyang maresolbahan.

Sa mga kasong 'yon nagsimula ang career ng Psyche Underground.

Ang dami na kasing natambak na unresolved cases sa bansa kaya sa kabutihang loob ng magkapatid na SPO2 Antonio de Leon at Atty. Helena de Leon-Soriano at ng tatlo pang tao, itinayo ang Psyche Underground Intelligence Agency higit tatlumpung taon na ang nakakalipas. Nagsimula sa limang miyembro, lumaki ito hanggang sa magkaroon ng labing-tatlong distrito.

Ang black coded cases naman ay ang mga kasong delikado, walang identified suspect at kinakailangan ng sapat na panahon para maresolbahan. Kaya nga nagtataka ako kung bakit kami isinali sa pag-resolve ng isang black coded case. They were supposed to be assigned to a Senior Agent.

The case was a confusing one too. Masyadong maraming kulang. Another thing, I didn't want to support their theory for the case. However, it was the better theory next to a megalomaniac serial killer.

And even though I was itching to see the corpses of the victims, it was impossible. All corpses went missing three days after they were found.

We already had the copy of the autopsy report for the two victims, but the remaining three had not been examined yet before they went missing. The police and two of District Five's detectives investigated the morgue where the bodies were brought, but they arrived at the same absurd conclusion: the dead resurrected.

I came out of my deep thoughts when someone knocked. Napalingon ako sa pinto ng kwartong tinutuluyan ko, pero hindi nag-abalang tumayo at pagbuksan ang sinuman. Bahala siyang isiping tulog na ako.

Inilipat ko ang tingin sa puting folder sa ibabaw ng mesang nasa harapan ko. Hindi ko pa pinagkaabalahang basahin ang nasa loob nun dahil binabagabag na ako ng mga sinabi ni Agent 7 kanina.

I looked back at the wide earth before me. Malawak ang lupang kinatitirikan ng District Five katulad din ng iba pang distritong napuntahan ko, pero ang pinakanai-iiba ay ang District Zero kung saan isang pang-mayamang night club ang itinayong balatkayo ng organisasyon. Palibhasa, puro mga lalaking agents ang naroon. Ako lang at ang sekretarya ni Agent Zero (ang dakilang agent na misteryo pa rin sa akin hanggang ngayon) ang tanging mga babae sa distrito.

Tumigil na rin sa pagkatok ang kung sinuman, pero maya-maya lang tumalon mula sa kabilang terrace ang isang nakangising hoodlum.

"Anong ginagawa mo rito?" pagtataray ko. The sweet evening breeze suddenly became a raging wind.
