Fire .It's the most beautiful thing but it's also the most deadly.Fire.Burning.Smoke inhalation. How can something be so deadly yet so beautiful?
It was late at night.Figures.All the bad one's were. The worst calls, the ones that made Andy want to drop everything and run away to her own private island. In retrospect a private island sounded pretty good right now.
All it took was a spark, one spark, one ember, that was all it took to uproot lives.
It was late at night. They were sleeping, exhausted,he'd been awake for 14 hours and she had been awake for longer. They were too tired to hear the alarm of something gone wrong.Or maybe the alarm wasn't working, maybe he forgot to change the batteries. After all he'd been busy .Whatever happened, whatever the cause they didn't hear it.They didn't hear the alarm. They didn't wake up and follow careful made plans.
5 hours earlier
The day was long. He'd only just now come home after a grueling call.He set his go bag down and went to find his wife. The call was bad,he needed her .He needed to be held by her.
"Hey." Miranda greeted Ben who stood in the door of her kitchen, their kitchen. "So Tuck he kissed her.First kiss. What am I going to do?"
He listened. At this point he didn't say anything, she knew what he was thinking.
"You're right.Oh Meredith is having a small get together. It's Saturday night, she's cooking so we should probably eat before" Miranda continued talking as Ben came up behind her and hugged her waist. She could feel the tone of his muscles and chills went up her spine as she thought of his job.
"God I missed you" Ben whispered breathing her in.Her scent, her warmth, her comfort.
Miranda sensed something was wrong "Want to talk about it?" She tried, she had tough days too and knew what it was like to be alone in the dark.
"Not really." Was the answer she received.Ben didn't want to relive those moments, the explosion, the rv crash, and almost losing his friends, his second family so to speak "I just want to be here with you.And not think about work,or Tuck,or Meredith's horrible cooking. Just be here with you, right here, right now."
Miranda understood. She knew better than to force Ben to talk and if it was that bad she probably didn't want to know anyway.it was hard loving the person who constantly ran towards danger, but it was harder when you were the one running into burning buildings. It took it's toll on the best of them.
"Well I'm here when you're ready." Bailey told him.She hoped he wouldn't hide it inside because he didn't want her to be worried. That was more dangerous than the running into fires part.
