Lane entered her room and collapsed onto her bed more than exhausted from the event that had taken place hours ago. The hybrid had almost lost Josie that night. In all of Lane's life she had never felt that intensity and of fear run throughout her.

The brunette teen tossed and turned in her bed uncomfortable and unsettled. She couldn't help but worry that something horrible was going to happen to Josie once again. Lane knew that she couldn't do much to ease her nerves, being that Alaric instructed Josie to come to her dorm and to have no one follow her.

Lane's thoughts were disrupted when frantic knocks tapped at her door. The teen being so drowsy simply called out a "come in". The door opened and revealed a tearful Jossette Saltzman. Immediately Lane sat up right concerned for her girlfriends well being.

Josie wasted no time in running towards Lane and falling into her arms. The witches body began to shake violently as sobs escaped her mouth, causing Lane to pull the girl closer to her.

"Hey shh, it's ok you're ok." Lane consoled the crying girl rubbing her back in the process. Josie relaxed at the hybrids voice and settled down slightly.

"It's Jo, Lizzie and I we had to-we had to..." Josie's voice cracked due to her distress and she held onto Lane tighter.

"You don't have to say it, I already know." Lane said trying to help Josie through this.

"We had to kill her." Josie cried out and buried her head further into Lane's neck.

"I know, I'm so sorry Josie. I'm so so sorry." Lane felt her heart ache for the girl she was holding. The hybrid knew the pain that Josie was going through all to well, and hated that there was nothing she could do to take that pain away from the Saltzman.

"I just want the pain to go away Lane. Please just make it stop." Josie pleaded.

"I can't baby girl, I wish I could. I'll tell you what though. The pain you feel right now, someday it will get easier. All the hurt you feel will soon become joy because today you got the chance to meet your mother. And while I know it was short and it ended in a way I would never want for you. You still got that moment happiness with her. She'll always be with you and watching over you baby. I can promise you that." Lane said comforting the girl.

"I love you Lane." Josie mumbled tears still pooling from her eyes.

"I love you too Josie." Lane said as she peppered soft kisses on the top of Josie's head.

Lane held onto Josie and stayed silent, knowing that sometimes all you really need is someone to hold you while you absorb everything around you. After some time Josie calmed down again and pulled away from Lane's shoulder.

"Thank you Laney," Josie said softly, her voice raspy from all the crying she had done.

"For what?" Lane asked as she tilted her head in confusion.

"For being here for me and making me feel safe." Josie said as she traced patterns into the palm of Lane's hand.

"You don't have to thank me for being there for you. I'm your girlfriend it's what I'm here for anytime, any day I'll always be here." Lane said, interlacing her fingers with Josie's and kissing the girls hand.

"You're such a sweetheart, you know that," Josie uttered, smiling at the hybrids softness.

"Sweetheart? What are you talking about. I'm a badass hybrid. I might even be the meanest person at this school." Lane said semi jokingly.

"You are far from mean, you're a big teddy bear Laney and you know it." Josie poked the hybrids cheek teasingly knowing she was right.

"I'm only nice to certain people. I have a soft spot for you and Hope is all. Everyone else I'm not to concerned about." Lane admitted, Josie raised her eyebrows knowing that Lane cared for more people than that.

"You forgetting anyone else there Firecracker?" Josie asked knowingly. Lane rolled her eyes and sighed knowing Josie saw right through her tough girl act.

"Okay, so maybe I care about Lizzie and MG as well, but that's about as far as it goes." Lane said truthfully. "And what's up with the nicknames anyway. Sweetheart? Firecracker?"

"Well, if you haven't noticed you give a lot of people attitude and sometimes have some anger issues, so that's where firecracker comes from. I mean is that ok. You know that I call you that?" Josie explained.

"Yeah I like that nickname, it suits me I suppose. But what about sweetheart. What's the reasoning behind that one?"

"Well like I said before, you're so kind and caring around me. I've never seen anyone be so gentle around me. I think you're sweet Lane. You're my sweetheart I guess." Josie said as she looked at the hybrid.

Lane was at a loss for words, what Josie said melted her heart completely. No one had ever viewed Lane in such a positive way before, except maybe Hope but that was different Hope was meant to love Lane because they were practically sisters. Josie however made the choice to love Lane even with all the hybrids faults. Josie made the decision to stick around and see the soft side of Lane that not many got to see.

"I love you so much Josie you know that," Lane said leaning in and pecking the girls lips, Josie held the hybrids neck in place making the kiss last a little longer.

"But just for the record, you are the only one who gets to call me either of those nicknames." Lane stated pulling away from the delightful kiss the two had shared.

"Sure thing sweetheart," Josie said flirtatiously as she laid back on Lane's bed and got underneath the covers.

"Staying the night are we," Lane asked, as she watched the witch bury her head deeper into Lane's pillow.

"I don't feel like walking to my room, so I might as well just stay here with you tonight." Josie mumbled as she became more drowsy. Lane laid down next to Josie and pulled the girl into her chest. The hybrid felt the Saltzman girls even breathes against her neck and knew that the witch had fallen asleep.

"I wouldn't have it any other way," Lane whispered, pressing a soft kiss to Josie's forehead.
