Time passes and still I am unable to move, frozen in a split second in time. The realisation paralyzing every part of me but my mind as I read the name repeatedly, double checking and checking again, looking for any sort of reassurance that this isn't real. The door clicks open but still I cannot move. Not until...

"Ummm, what are you doing.?" I drop the passports into his bag. Jumping up I kick his bag behind me before walking into my bedroom, slamming the door behind me.

He lied to me. Liar, liar, liar.

My legs crumble from underneath me as I fall into a heap on the floor, heart dropping. I have dreamed of this day, and yet this isn't the day I had hoped for. The dramatic reunion, the sight of him walking out the airport, me running into his arms. The hug that would never end.

Gone.

He knocks three times on the door, quiet knocks as if he is trying to catch the attention of a wild rabbit, not wanting to frighten it away.

"Maddie listen." He mumbles, his accent still prominent. It's not him, that is not his voice.

"You're a thief, it's not you. The man you claim to be is gone."

"I'm sorry I lied; I wasn't meant to run into you. It's only a short visit. My dad wants to talk to me. I didn't want to hurt you again. To have to leave you again." He tries to slowly move the door handle down, I lean against it, not letting him intrude. His accent disappears and the voice I remember so well echo's in my ears.

Short visit.

"When do you leave?"

"Two weeks. We wouldn't have had any time to spend together."

"Just knowing you were alive would have been enough. I thought something awful had happened. You ignored every message." Looking up, I try to stop the tears from falling.

"Open the door. Please." I can't help but to stand up. Rubbing my eyes, I hold onto to handle before opening the door.

"Hi Maddie."

"Jessie."
