Change happens many times in each of our lives. It's a reoccurring aspect of life that no one can avoid. It comes in many forms, both good and bad. The first big change in my life that I remember is when my family moved to Los Angeles when I was five. My brother, Mason, and I were about to start kindergarten in the fall and dad got a promotion that required us to leave our home in Arizona. Mom could work from home so the transition was pretty easy. Living in LA has been great, as I have had a lot of great opportunities and there is a lot to do and learn around the area. It's also where I met my best friend, Viv, in 7th grade. As thankful as I am to be able to live in LA, Arizona will always be my favorite place. After we moved, the rest of our family stayed behind. For holidays and some weeks during the summer, we go back to visit our family. It is at these times which I feel most at peace and connected to myself. I plan to move back to Arizona full time when I start college.

The next big change I remember was my parents' divorce. Mason and I were ten and trying to figure out life with our parents living in different homes was pretty difficult. We were pretty lucky though since our parents stayed friends and worked together to love and care for us. I am grateful for the situation I have now. I realize that not everyone is this lucky. My parents did what was best for my brother and I. even though our time had to be shared between them, the love and care we received was never lacking. I was given the best set of parents I could ever ask for.

When I was 13, change came my way again. This time however, it only affected me, and it was a majorly positive change in my life. For my 13th birthday, I received my first camera. It was one that my dad had when he was growing up and saved. It technically was for mason to use too, but once I took my first photo I was hooked and claimed the camera as my own. This gift sparked my love of photography from the moment I got my hands on it. Since that day, photography has been one of the biggest parts of my life. Taking pictures makes me unbelievably happy, and it is part of who I am.

My name is Marley Kent, and change has been a big part of my life. These have been the biggest changes of my life so far. That was until the summer before college, when a surprising twist changed my life more than I could have ever imagined.
