Chapter 1

~ ~ Amaris's pov ~ ~

I look over the grassland of untamed land that is beyond the city as I look at Lilly, Lyon, and Kuro. "This is it guys we finally escaped the hell hole of the city." I step into the grassland watching as Lyon tackles Lilly playfully as they both roll and I smile following them. Kuro follows walking beside me once we get far enough out of sight of the city he shifts into his big form watching the other two wrestle still. I watch them wrestle Lilly eventually ending up on top as Lyon gives up and they both bound over to me and Kuro.

I smile petting them both as I hear something nearby and Kuro crouched down as I see a rabbit streak to it's warren. I smile slightly as I watch it run. I look down at my work shoes taking them off along with my socks as I wiggle my toes in the soft grass. I stick them in my bag as I stand back up looking at the others. I smile taking off at a run as they follow Kuro ahead of me Lilly and Lyon at my heels.

I eventually end up tripping as I get distracted by a new noise and I faceplant into the grass. "Ow. It's softer than concrete though." Kuro smiles nudging my side as I sit up. I pet him smiling softly as I stand falling back down from a sudden pain in my ankle. "Ow. I must have twisted it when I fell." Kuro gently nudges me again before picking me up by the back of my shirt and placing me on his back gently.

I gently hold onto his fur with one hand as he runs, watching everything zoom past. I relax against his back looking at the sky as I grab a few things from my bag and make a splint for my ankle.

I eventually finish as I look around my horns and tail having reappeared when I relaxed as I smile slightly. I sit up as Kuro stops and I look around silently curiosity filling my gaze as my horns and tail disappear.

My gaze lands on the wolf in front of Kuro as I slide off landing on my feet only to crumple to the ground thanks to my twisted ankle. Lilly and Lyon growl at the wolf as it steps forward. I manage to get back on my feet favoring that ankle as I look at the wolf knowing I might have to defend myself. I watch as the wolf changes to a girl a little taller than me looking to be about a year older.

"Kid what are you doing here alone." She asks her head tilted.

"But I'm not alone I have my friends." I look at her as she looks around seeing Kuro, Lilly, and Lyon.

She smiles slightly. "So these three are your friends. Any family I need to know about nearby?" She smiles mischievously as I look at her stepping closer to Kuro.

"No I ran away." The girl responds as she looks at me her head tilted slightly.

~ ~ the girls pov ~ ~

I think for a moment. 'I wonder if this girl needs a place to stay she clearly needs help she's favoring her left ankle. I'm gonna ask if she wants to stay with the pack until her ankle is healed.' I smile. "My name is May would you like to come stay with me and the pack I'm in just until your ankle is healed?" She looks at me curious but wary as she slowly nods. I smile watching the cat shrink in wonder and jump onto her shoulder.

She lets the cat looking at me. "Well let's go. My name's Amaris by the way." I nod leading the way as Amaris and the pups follow.

~ ~ Amaris's pov ~ ~

I follow May silently looking around as we enter a forest I hear several noises nearby as I stick close to May Lyon and Lilly staying close to me as Kuro rides my shoulder. I let him as we enter the camp as I feel all eyes suddenly on me and I look at the ground nervously.
