Chapter one

ROSE

"Have you been out there? War is in full swing!" Karla exclaimed to my mother.

"I told you karla, there's nothing we can do! We are armless in this case, our powers are only for good" my mom said back calmly.

Something I love about her. No matter how urgent or bad the situation is, her voice is always calm and smooth. Like she has just one emotion in her.

"People are dying-"

"If they're not one of our kind then it's none of our business" she said in the same tone.

"It won't be long before they attack us. The dragon shifters are getting closer" I said to my mother, repeating the words I heard someone say earlier.

Karla and my mother both looked at me asif they're just noticing my presence. "Rose-" my mother started but I stopped her.

"Mother, Karla is right. We need to do something at least come up with a defense plan." I said to her and she shook her head.

"You won't understand,child" she said to me. Something she always said to me.

"Karla you've been dismissed. Everyone should calm down and go on with their lives. Whatever that is happening outside these gates is none of our business" she said, as she adjusted her crown and straightened her already straightened icy blue dress.

Karla simply bowed down and left and I looked across the room from my throne beside hers to hers. "How many times have I told you to stay out of these type of matters" my mom said to me, her face emotionless. As she stared across the room and I gulped.

"I'm sorry mother" I said to her, my voice low. "It's okay" she smiled and looked at me showing off her dimples.

I admired her beauty. All nymphs were beautiful that's what we were known for.My mother on the other hand was way beyond beautiful, her beauty was extraordinary. I always envied her long dark hair which were always in perfect wild curls, her perfect pointy nose, her perfect blue eyes, she was just simply perfect. She had no flaws.

I on the other hand. I'm just well normal for a nymph. I have straight blonde hair, with blue highlights., Bright blue eyes and a short slim frame.

"You're beautiful just the way you're, honey" she said, interrupting my thoughts.

Oh how could I forget? She can read minds.

You're probably wondering what nymphs are. Nymphs are spirits of nature, we come in female forms only. Just like every other creature, we come in different kinds.

There are nymphs who preside over forests called dryads, nymphs who look over rivers and springs called naiads. There are also Oceanids, who look after the sea.

Which one am I? None of them. I come from the royal part of nymphs. meaning what I do is;look after my people and control the kingdom. That's mostly my moms job obviously, but I still help.

Normal nymphs have no exact super powers or Magic. Their only powers are the ability to control nature in general.

Royal nymphs on the other hand have a variety of powers. My mother and I, are able to control all the elements; water bodies,plants, anything related to nature even the weather.

I am blessed with the ability to control and specialize in ice, I also have the ability to move objects around something like telekinesis.

My mother on the other hand had it all. Telekinesis, ability to control all elements, read minds, heal, change the weather.

"Mother, you know I feel uncomfortable when you read my mind"

"Your forehead was creased, I was wondering what was stressing my angel"she smiled at me as she reached out and rubbed my arm.

The sounds of screams of horror and growls of dragons made us jerk up.

"What the hell is going on!" I exclaimed as we both began to race outside to see what was going on.Before we could go out,Evelyn,one of the guards stopped us.

"Your majesties,the dragon shifters- we need to get you safe" she said as she pulled us towards the back end of the castle.

"I've prepared a ride for you both to leave"

"This is our home, we can't just leave it" I exclaimed as she starting to push me towards the place. "They're going to burn this whole kingdom down and it's my job to make sure you're safe."

"But..!"

"We can't fight back princess rose, they're too powerful" she yelled and I looked at my mom.

"Protecting this kingdom is MY job. Get everyone safe and out of here. Take rose with you. I'm going to protect this place even if it kills me" my mother said as her eyes changed to a fiery red, ready to fight.

"I'm coming with you!" I said to her but she shook her head immediately the words left my mouth.

"Evelyn get everyone to the back of palace and arrange rides to take you all out of here" she told her and she nodded and left, leaving only me and my mother.

"Listen rose, It was my mistake that I didn't listen to you and Karla earlier. Had it been I came up with a defense plan..." she trailed off.

"It's not your fault-"

"My job is to protect this place and this is what I'm going to do. They might be stronger than us but what type of queen would I be to abandon my own kingdom" she said,proving a point.

"I'm a royal too, I have to help you" a loud rumble shook the floor and she hesitantly started to speak. The chaos outside growing louder.

"I know I know. That's why I'm giving you this job to protect everyone coming with you. I might not make it but promise me you will" she said calmly and that only made tears spill out of my eyes.

"You're a strong, brave girl" she smiled at me sadly and hugged me. I hugged her back and sobbed into her shoulder. I embraced this moment as long as I could but it ended just a few seconds later. She pulled away and placed a pearl diamond necklace in my hand and I quickly recognized it.

It's for protection

"Mother, you need this more than I-"

"Nonsense, child. You have a lot of people coming with you" she said to me and I cried harder. She quickly kissed my cheek and got up to go outside.

"Princess.. let's go" one of the guards said to me as they came to pull me but I was just frozen from fear and the thought of losing my mother.

I didn't even realize when we got out and I was put on top of a horse.

She needs you to be brave

I quickly wiped my tears and put the necklace around my neck. I looked around me to see several horses maybe almost two hundred, filled with people.

I felt a hand touch mine and I looked down to see Karla with a sympathetic smile. "Be strong for us princess rose we need you" she said to me and I nodded. She smiled and left.

I grabbed the halter to my horse and began the journey with my people following close behind.

We were a few miles away from the kingdom when we heard a loud scream that made the whole place shake and plants die.
