Speaking of the devil, the Demar limousine shows up and the gate automatically opened for it to enter inside. I guess this has to come up some time else. I have to deal with this shit again.
The door opens to reveal a blonde man and suit. Is that the Demar driver? He's just standing there facing the door, waiting.
I stop the machine and go towards him slowly.
"Hello, can I, uh help you?" I ask.
He looks at me, removing his black sunglasses and gives a firm smile, "You must be Tom, caretaker of Hallie. My name is Matt. I'm here waiting for Gerald to pick up Helena Demar's things."
"Oh, well. You know Hallie?"
"Know Hallie? I took care of her last year."
The door opened and Gerald handed out some bags to Matt. "Good morning, Matt. Pleasure to see you always."
"And you, Gerald." Matt greeted and collects the bags. Gerald went back inside.
"Hey Matt... can you help me? I don't know how to do this job properly."
"I'm sorry, man. I need to be on my way." Matt starts to walk towards to limousine again.
"Please! Things have become really bad and I really want help her." He stopped. "You know her more than I do, is there any advice you could give me?"
He looked back and sighed, "I am not giving an advice, but a suggestion." He walked back and we both sat in the small bench outside the door. "I'm betting she's all quiet now and you've been trying to get her to talk by annoying her yourself?"
I stuttered, "Uh, exactly. But it's not really working."
"Tom, when you talk, it must be of something important. Something, she will take to heart."
"I'm trying but it's just—"
"Listen, when you open up to her, don't talk about your funny class stories or favourite soup. Show her a side of you that she never knew."
I raised a brow, "Okay. Did you do this?"
Matt sighs and hesitates, "You seem to be a good person. You're only doing this for Hallie, right?" I confirmed. "I wasn't always 'this'. What Hallie saw me as last year, is different than what you see now."
I was confused until he furthered explain, "Long story short, Hallie would call me a she. But it wasn't who I was. And Hallie figured out herself, so I told her that I'm actually a he." I got it now. Matt smiled, "She was so accepting and I never regret it. Later on in life, I changed my look and I don't even know if she still would remember me. But, back when we really needed it, we did help each other out."
"Thanks for sharing that."
"And, when word came out to Helena, she fired me as a caretaker because she thinks I might influence her wrong. I still needed a job, so here I am."
"Damn, that really sucks. Sorry."
"Yeah, but it wasn't Hallie's fault. So, I still don't regret being personal with her." He smiled, not looking at me, "I mean, I'm not forcing you to tell everything. Just be raw with her. You seem to know everything about her situation. I think she's waiting for yours." Matt looks at me and grins. I grin back.
"Thank you. A lot. I'll take this to mind."
"Good, I hope you do." He stands up, "Well, I really should be off."
The door suddenly opened and it's Jess yet again, "What are you doing slacking off over and over again!" I quickly stood up.
"I guess you should be, too." Matt wears his sunglasses and bids, "See you later, man. Be good to Hallie."
