He looks at me

Like I am showing him

Something

That can never be explained.

Like I am introducing him

To someone

That has no name.

I am wearing a

Dangerous shade of

Pink

And he is wearing

A coat

In a place where

Sunglasses are needed.

He asks me what it is

I am looking for,

And I whisper,

"So much,"

In reply.

"And you?"

"So little,"

Was his,

And I look at him

Knowing

There is nothing

I can do for him;

Knowing

There is nothing

I can do for

Us.

My husband looks at me

Like I am someone

New,

And I realize now,

There is nothing

I can possibly

Show him

That will click

For someone like him.

Because I am

Me

And he is

Him,

And that is what will matter

In the story of

Us.
