My computer screen lit up my face in a glow of neon green as I decoded the server’s mainframe. The hours that I’ve spent trying to untangle the mess of security finally paying off. I breathed a sigh of relief and lean back, watching as the mainframe crumbled.

I used a special coding that I had created to hide my I.P. name. I had to cover all of my tracks. This was a big job for me to do, and it paid well.

I called up my costumer to tell him what I had done.

“Yeoboseyo?” He said. God, I hated his voice, but I loved his money.

“The mainframe is down, and the server is destroyed.”

“Good job, Suga.” the man coughed, most likely smoking right that moment. I rolled my eyes as he spoke again, “How much do I owe you again?“

“$58,000, make it US money please.”

“Why do I owe you that much? I thought we agreed on 48 grand!” his voice rasped out.

I rolled my eyes again, “It was that until you lied to me about it being a small job. It was a fucking government server you idiot. Now, I can either spend another hour, going back through this and using an encryption to blame it on you or, you can give me my money.”

“No need to do that now, Suga.” The man said worriedly.

That’s what I thought, bitch, I smiled and thought to myself.

I checked the time on my computer, 1:56 A.M.

“Have the money transferred by 2:30 or else.” I hung up the call, not waiting for him to respond.

I laughed as I stood up from my seat at my desk and stretched. I do small jobs sometimes if I can’t find anything to do, some good, some bad. Virus infected your computer? I could fix it for $300 or more. You want the entire video of Hamilton: The Musical pirated onto a CD, and to have it not look like shit? Minimum of $2,000.

A dry, humorless, laugh came out of my parted lips. They were cracked from not paying any attention to drinking these last few days.

I smiled, thinking of all the people that probably lost their jobs because of me tonight. I walked over to the fridge and pulled out a bottle of beer.

I looked at it for a minute, realizing that I didn’t want it, and put it back. I looked at the fridge for a little while more, then back at the time.

He had 24 minutes to wire me the money, that’s enough time to go to the store and back. Right?

I put on my jacket and shoes, making sure to grab my key and wallet before I left. I shut the door behind me as I silently walked through my apartment building and down the street to the little convenience store half a block down the road.

I walked with my eyes down as I entered the store, barely noticing anything until I heard someone shout, “I swear to God himself, that I am old enough, sir!”
