"I'm good now" he laughed as I moved in front of the fridge pulling out sandwich supplies

"You couldn't sleep?" I asked as I placed everything on the counter

"I was just hungry was all" he said leaning against the counter "and you?"

"Same" I said forcing out a smile. I didn't necessarily want to tell him the real reason I was down here, so I just went along with his excuse.

We were met with silence after that exchange as he finished up his sandwich and as I made mine.

I had a lot on my mind so I didn't mind it one bit.

Through these thoughts I concluded, therapy didn't seem like too bad of an idea after all.

"Why Nadia?" He asked out of no where, breaking the silence

"What do you mean?" I asked raising a brow

"I mean out of all the girls, you choose her. She's different then you—different skin then you, so why" he asks studying my movements

"Honestly?" I said putting down the lettuce as he nodded for me to continue "I took one look at her and she honestly was, or should I say is, the most beautiful girl I've ever seen. I wasn't really worried about our different skin color if I'm quite honest. Those thoughts came way after" I shrugged

"You're not worried about the criticism you'll receive or should I say have received or the criticism she's received because of it?" He asked thoughtfully

"I mean we try not to think or worry about it too much because it's all irrelevant. We love each other and what everyone else says doesn't bother us" I countered

"There's a lot of things that come with being with Nadia, things you won't understand cause you're white. Things your kids will go through if it gets that far. I just hope you're really prepared for all those things. I know you love her so much and that you are genuine, these are just things I had to get off my chest" he said standing up straight

"I understand" I nodded. I knew exactly what he was referring to. The everyday black injustices going on in the world wasn't something to turn a blind eye to.

"I really hope you do. Merry Christmas Hunter" he said patting my shoulder before throwing his napkin away and heading out the kitchen.

Lowering my head down, I sighed.

I began to take everything he said in, this particular conversation was not to be taken lightly.

"Oh and Hunter?" I heard causing me to raise my head back up

"Yes?"

"Make sure Nadia gets back to her room, she ain't slick" he said knowingly. Once he said that, my heart began to pick up speed

"Yes, sir" I said feeling as though my throat was gonna close up

Giving me a nod, he walked out the kitchen once again.

"I told her ass" I mumbled shaking my head "she gonna get me killed" I said biting into my sandwich
